Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made an unexpected change to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s new life in Britain, moving their children to another school just two days into the new term following discussions with their security team.
Archie and Lilibet had only recently started attending school after the Sussex family returned to the UK, marking one of the biggest changes for the children as Harry and Meghan began establishing their new British routine.
However, the original arrangements reportedly presented security-related logistical difficulties, forcing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to reconsider whether the daily school journey could be managed safely and practically by their protection team.
“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said.
The couple also made clear that their sudden decision should not be interpreted as criticism of the school itself, stressing their appreciation for those who had looked after Archie and Lilibet during their brief time there.
“The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family,” the spokesperson continued while explaining the circumstances surrounding the move.
“This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there,” the statement added, firmly separating the change from concerns about educational standards.
According to Hello! magazine, the problem centred on heavy traffic during the children’s commute rather than a specific threat against Archie or Lilibet while they were attending the school.
The traffic reportedly created difficulties for Harry and Meghan’s security arrangements because it would have been challenging for the vehicles protecting the family to remain together in convoy throughout the journey.
A friend of the Sussexes described the development as a “real shame,” claiming both the parents and children had been extremely happy with the school and initially hoped to make the arrangement work.
“They really wanted to make it work, but they had to make a difficult decision based on the fact that the team couldn’t make the school run operationally secure,” the source explained.
The episode highlights the practical security challenges facing the Sussex family following their return to Britain, particularly as Harry and Meghan attempt to provide Archie and Lilibet with a stable everyday routine.
Separately, Harry’s security arrangements remain under review, with the process expected to determine what level of police protection the Duke and his family could receive while they are in the United Kingdom.
For now, Harry and Meghan appear unwilling to compromise when their children’s security is involved. Although Archie and Lilibet reportedly loved their first school, the Sussexes ultimately chose to change arrangements once their protection team concluded that the daily journey could not be made operationally secure.
