Princess Kate Receives Meaningful Honour Once Held by Late Queen Elizabeth

Princess Kate has reached a special milestone after a decade supporting Action for Children, the charity she took over from the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2016, marking an important chapter in her royal work.

The Princess of Wales, who joined Prince William in welcoming Omani royals on Tuesday, has another reason to celebrate as her long-standing commitment to helping children and families receives renewed attention.

Kate became patron of Action for Children after Queen Elizabeth, who supported the organisation for 50 years, passed the role to her. The milestone highlights a decade of work with a cause closely associated with the Princess.

According to HELLO!, Kate has brought genuine warmth and compassion to the role, building on the late Queen’s longstanding connection with the charity.

Her involvement has included meeting people directly affected by the organisation’s work and learning about the challenges facing vulnerable children and families.

One of her most recent visits took place in February 2025, when she travelled to Action for Children’s Mother and Baby Unit at HMP Styal.

The visit offered Kate an opportunity to see how the charity supports mothers and their babies, including families facing difficult circumstances during a particularly important stage of a child’s development.

Brigitte Gater, Action for Children’s managing director for children’s services, recalled the Princess’s interest in the people behind the work and the importance of supporting children during their early years.

“She took time to speak with staff, ask thoughtful questions and understand the realities faced by the families we support,” Gater said.

She added that the visit had been an “incredibly proud moment” for everyone involved, explaining that Kate’s presence helped shine a light on the charity’s work and encouraged staff, volunteers and families.

The milestone underlines how Kate has continued a role previously held by Queen Elizabeth while developing her own public commitment to children’s wellbeing and early-years support.

It also comes as the Royal Family continues to navigate ongoing speculation about tensions involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Some reports have suggested that Prince William could take a firmer approach towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, although claims that he is “on the brink” of taking action have not been confirmed by the Palace.

Against that backdrop, Kate’s charity milestone offers a reminder of the public duties she continues to carry out alongside William, with her work for Action for Children remaining a significant part of her royal role.
