Prince Harry and Meghan’s £10 Million UK Dream Hits Financial Roadblock as Sussexes Rethink Future

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are putting their hopes of establishing a permanent home in UK aside after the Duke’s dream of purchasing a £10 million country estate ran into a major financial obstacle.
The latest development could mark an important change in the couple’s plans, particularly as Harry had reportedly been keen to secure a separate British property that would allow him to spend more time near his royal relatives.
Meghan was also said to have supported her husband’s wish to maintain a separate base in the UK, although her own feelings about returning to Britain have reportedly been rather different.
The Duchess previously left the country amid a difficult period in her royal life, and reports of her preference to remain in California have continued to fuel questions about the couple’s long-term plans.
Now, the reported financial difficulties surrounding their property ambitions could give the Sussexes another reason to concentrate on their life in the United States.
According to commentator Rob Shuter, the couple had their hearts set on an impressive country estate in the Cotswolds, ideally positioning them closer to King Charles and the wider royal world Harry left behind.
However, finding the perfect property is proving considerably more complicated than simply deciding where they would like to live.
A source told Shuter that the couple’s ambitions for a lavish British home are not currently matching their financial circumstances. “They have champagne tastes, but the bank balance isn’t matching the ambition,” the source claimed.
The insider added that Harry and Meghan wanted a magnificent country estate where they could entertain guests, enjoy privacy and experience the lifestyle they had imagined for themselves.
However, the source suggested that a property carrying a £10 million price tag was simply beyond their reach at present. The reported setback comes amid continuing speculation about where the Sussexes intend to spend the festive season.
Meghan has previously expressed her desire to spend Christmas with her mother, Doria Ragland, in Montecito, California, while reports have also suggested the couple could begin their festive celebrations in Britain.
The possibility of travelling between the two countries has therefore remained an important part of the discussion surrounding their family arrangements.
For Harry, maintaining a connection with Britain has reportedly remained a significant personal ambition, particularly given his continuing hopes of rebuilding relationships with members of the Royal Family.
Nevertheless, the difficulties surrounding his security arrangements, family relationships and reported property ambitions have complicated the prospect of establishing a permanent British base.
For Meghan, meanwhile, California remains the home where she and Harry have built their family life since stepping back from their senior royal positions in 2020.
Whether the couple eventually revisit their plans for a British country estate remains uncertain. For now, the reported financial obstacle has placed their £10 million dream home firmly in question, leaving their future property plans unresolved.
