Prince Harry Faces Fresh Hurdle Before Possible Royal Family Christmas Reunion
Prince Harry could face an uncomfortable hurdle as he reportedly prepares to spend more time in the UK, with a royal expert claiming he still has an “outstanding debt” to Queen Camilla.
The Duke of Sussex has previously spoken publicly about several senior members of the Royal Family, including his stepmother. His past comments about Camilla could now become significant if he hopes to rebuild family relationships.
Speculation has recently surrounded the possibility of Harry, Meghan Markle and their children spending Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham. However, royal commentator Robert Jobson believes there is an important issue that must be addressed first.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Jobson argued that Harry owes Camilla a debt after criticizing her in his 2023 memoir, Spare. He suggested the issue could remain a barrier to genuine family unity.
Harry made several claims about Camilla in his memoir, including an allegation that she had sacrificed him on what he described as her personal public relations efforts. His comments attracted considerable attention when the book was released.
Jobson reportedly believes Harry should address those remarks if the monarchy is to achieve the kind of unity that some hope could eventually emerge. However, he acknowledged that an apology from the Duke appears unlikely.
The royal expert claimed the chances of Harry standing up and apologizing for his past comments are “slim.” Nevertheless, he argued that such a step would be important if the family is serious about moving beyond its longstanding divisions.
The issue comes amid reports that Harry and Meghan, together with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, could return to the UK by the end of August. Their reported plans have naturally intensified speculation about future family meetings.
Harry’s relationship with Camilla has been complicated for many years. His feelings toward his stepmother were also discussed during his interviews following the publication of Spare, adding further public detail to their difficult history.
In his memoir, Harry recalled that he and Prince William had asked their father, King Charles, not to marry Camilla. He later described the brothers as wishing their father well despite their concerns about the marriage.
Harry also discussed Camilla during a 2023 interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes. At the time, he described her as a third person in Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage and said she needed to rehabilitate her image.
Those remarks remain part of the complicated history between Harry and the Queen. If the Sussexes do return to Britain for a more permanent period, questions about whether old wounds can genuinely be put aside are likely to continue.
A potential Christmas gathering at Sandringham would therefore carry considerable significance. It could provide an opportunity for family members to spend time together, but unresolved tensions could also make such an occasion highly sensitive.
For Harry, rebuilding his relationship with Charles may not be the only challenge. Improving his relationship with Camilla could also prove important if he hopes to establish a more comfortable place within the Royal Family.
Whether Harry eventually addresses his past comments remains uncertain. But as speculation about his return to Britain grows, the question of whether he can make peace with Camilla may become increasingly difficult to avoid.
