Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Friend Takes Aim at Lazy Royal Family Label in Bombshell Message

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly dislike the phrase “working members of the royal family”, with a friend of the Sussexes telling The Sunday Times that the description is “really lazy” and fails to reflect the couple’s work and family lives.

The comments did not come directly from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but the friend’s remarks have reignited discussion about how Harry and Meghan view their position outside the working monarchy.

According to the friend, both Sussexes object to the terminology, believing it creates a misleading distinction between royals who carry out official duties and those who pursue other professional activities.

“‘Working members of the royal family’ is a really lazy phrase. He hates it, she hates it,” the friend told the newspaper.

The source went on to argue that Harry and Meghan are not working for the royal institution, but remain members of the Royal Family who have their own responsibilities and careers.

“They are not ‘working’ for the institution, but they are members of the royal family, and they work,” the friend explained, adding that their days revolve around their family life and professional commitments.

The source also pointed to Meghan’s business activities, claiming she is “running a business seven days a week”. The remarks appear intended to challenge the suggestion that the couple are not working simply because they no longer carry out official royal duties.

Although Prince William and Princess Kate were not directly mentioned in the reported comments, the debate could draw attention to the distinction between the Waleses’ official responsibilities and the Sussexes’ independent public and professional lives.

The friend’s comments also addressed another label Harry and Meghan reportedly dislike: “former royals”.

According to the source, the couple’s appearances in Britain, including their recent visit to Nottingham, should not be interpreted as activities undertaken on behalf of the monarchy or the Crown.

“Things like Nottingham aren’t done in the name of the institution or the crown, but Harry is the son of the King; he is still a member of the royal family,” the friend said.

The source added that Harry was no longer a member of the institution, drawing a distinction between his family connection to the monarchy and his former role as a working royal.

The friend argued that describing Harry and Meghan as “former royals” could influence how the public perceives them and how their activities are discussed.

“It’s misleading to call them ‘former royals’,” the source said, adding that the terminology “has an impact on how they’re perceived and the way people talk about them”.

The remarks highlight the continuing sensitivity surrounding the Sussexes’ status since they stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and established independent lives in the United States.

However, the reported comments remain the views of a friend rather than a direct statement from Harry or Meghan. Neither the Sussexes nor the Waleses were quoted responding to the remarks, leaving their personal reactions to the latest debate unconfirmed.
