Prince George’s experience at Eton College is expected to contrast sharply from that of Prince William despite the father and son following the same educational path. Royal commentators believe the future king will enter the historic institution under far more stable circumstances than those faced by his father more than three decades ago.
Prince George is only weeks away from beginning his studies at Eton College, one of Britain’s most prestigious schools. The 13-year-old royal will follow in Prince William’s footsteps after the Prince of Wales enrolled at the Berkshire institution in 1995.
At the time, Prince William was accompanied by Princess Diana as he prepared for an entirely new chapter in his life. His years at the school would later become closely associated with some of the most difficult moments of his childhood.
Prince William’s education was overshadowed by the separation of his parents and the intense public attention surrounding the family. Just two years after he arrived at Eton, Princess Diana tragically died in a car accident in Paris.
According to royal author Robert Johnson, Prince George’s circumstances are considerably different. He explained that the young prince is beginning this important stage of his life while surrounded by a strong and supportive family environment.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Johnson said that Prince George comes from a settled home and is unlikely to face the same difficulties that affected Prince William during his teenage years. The royal expert offered an optimistic view of the future monarch’s transition to boarding school life.
However, Johnson also pointed out that Prince George has already experienced significant challenges despite his young age. Over the past two years, both Princess Kate and King Charles have undergone treatment following their cancer diagnoses.
The commentator explained that those experiences may have strengthened Prince George’s character. According to Johnson, witnessing the courage displayed by his mother and grandfather has helped him develop resilience and maturity.
Another factor working in Prince George’s favour is the location of the school itself. Eton College is situated close to Windsor Castle, allowing the young royal to remain close to his family while adapting to his new surroundings.
Johnson believes that remaining near home will help Prince George adjust more comfortably to life at boarding school. He also expressed confidence that the environment would support the young royal’s development in the years ahead.
Unlike many traditional boarding schools, Eton College follows a different approach when it comes to student accommodation. Every pupil receives an individual study bedroom rather than sharing a room with other students.
According to the school’s official policy, this arrangement is intended to encourage independence, organisation and self-discipline from the very beginning. Students are expected to manage their own responsibilities and maintain their daily routines.
Prince George will join approximately 260 other boys who are expected to begin their studies at the school at the same time. Like his fellow pupils, he will be required to adapt to the institution’s demanding academic and social environment.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams also described Eton as the ideal choice for the young prince. Alongside its excellent reputation, the school’s strong security measures, impressive sporting facilities and familiarity with royal traditions are believed to have played an important role in the decision.
