Royal Experts Criticize Prince Harry After He Introduces Himself Using Royal Title

Royal experts have criticized Prince Harry after the Duke of Sussex introduced himself using his royal title during a recent podcast appearance in the UK, sparking fresh debate about his identity and continued connection to the monarchy. The interview was recorded during his visit to Britain to promote the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

Prince Harry appeared on Joe Marler’s podcast, where he was asked to introduce himself using his full name before explaining what he does. The lighthearted exchange quickly attracted attention from royal commentators.

Responding to the question, Harry said, “Henry Albert Charles David, Duke of Sussex.” He then described himself as a “full-time dad,” a British Army veteran, and a prince before joking about how he should introduce himself.

“Full-time dad. British Army veteran. Prince of England. Duke. But for today, I don’t know. What do you want?” Harry said before eventually settling on “Duke.”

His response prompted criticism from royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, who argued that the Duke had used his title instead of his legal surname during the introduction.

Speaking to Fox News, Schofield said, “Instead of giving his full name, he gave his title.” She questioned why Harry chose to identify himself in that way.

According to Schofield, “His full name is Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windsor. Unless he has legally changed his surname to Sussex — which I have seen no evidence that he has — ‘Duke of Sussex’ is a title, not his name.”

She added that the moment, although brief, highlighted how closely Harry’s public identity remains connected to his royal status despite stepping back as a senior working royal.

The commentator also praised the overall tone of the interview, suggesting Harry appeared more relaxed speaking with Joe Marler because of their shared British sense of humor. She described the appearance as more successful than some of his previous media interviews.

British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard also shared her views following the podcast. She said the discussion reminded her of an anecdote previously attributed to royal author Hugo Vickers regarding the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Chard referenced claims that Queen Elizabeth once privately described Harry as having gone to California to become a childminder. She stressed, however, that there is “absolutely nothing wrong with being a full-time dad,” while suggesting Harry may still reflect on his broader sense of purpose.

During the conversation, Joe Marler also asked Harry whether he would describe himself as the “inventor” of the Invictus Games. The Duke quickly corrected the wording, replying that he was the “founder” of the international sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans.

The interview formed part of Prince Harry’s efforts to promote the 2027 Invictus Games, which are scheduled to take place in Birmingham. While the discussion covered his charitable work and personal life, it was Harry’s choice of introduction that generated the strongest reaction among royal commentators and reignited debate about his continuing use of his royal title.
