Prince Harry has made an important move towards King Charles shortly after returning to United Kingdom, with a source claiming the Duke contacted his father despite reports suggesting the pair had not spoken since the Sussex family arrived in the UK.
The Duke of Sussex returned with Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for an extended stay, immediately raising questions about whether living closer to the royal family could create opportunities for repairing some of their strained relationships.
While Harry has not yet reportedly met Charles face-to-face since his return, a source close to the Duke has denied claims that there has been no communication whatsoever between father and son.
According to the Daily Express, Harry reached out to Charles during the first week after arriving in his homeland, suggesting the Duke was keen to maintain contact with his father as his family settled into their new British routine.
The source confirmed that Harry and Charles had a conversation, believed to have taken place over the phone, although details about what was discussed between the King and his younger son have not been disclosed.
The claim directly challenges an earlier assessment from royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, who suggested that Harry had not communicated with Charles following his unexpected move back to the United Kingdom.
“Prince Harry reportedly hasn’t spoken to his father since his return to the UK,” Schofield told GB, while discussing the uncertainty surrounding the Sussexes’ plans and their relationship with the Palace.
She also claimed Charles had been “blindsided” by Harry’s move and remained uncertain about his younger son’s intentions because the Duke had not been sufficiently clear about what he planned to do while living in Britain.
“I’ve heard from multiple sources that King Charles was blindsided by Harry’s move and remains perplexed because Harry hasn’t been particularly clear or forthcoming about what he intends to do in Britain,” Schofield said.
The commentator suggested this apparent lack of communication contributed to the Palace’s decision to issue a formal clarification regarding Harry and Meghan’s status as non-working members of the royal family.
That message reiterated that the Sussexes carry out their charitable and commercial activities in a private capacity rather than representing the sovereign, effectively maintaining the boundaries established after their departure from official royal duties.
Schofield argued that Harry may have moved physically closer to his relatives without necessarily achieving meaningful reconciliation, saying it “certainly doesn’t sound like they moved any closer” to repairing their damaged relationships.
However, the latest claim that Harry contacted Charles presents a somewhat different picture. A conversation between them would suggest that communication has not completely broken down, even if major unresolved issues remain between father and son.
