Meghan Markle Was Spared the Scrutiny Princess Kate Faced Before Royal Wedding

Meghan Markle reportedly avoided the lengthy scrutiny that Princess Kate experienced before marrying into the Royal Family, with a palace insider suggesting that nobody wanted to risk upsetting Prince Harry.

The contrasting experiences of the two royal women have resurfaced as royal commentators, historians and former palace aides continue to examine their different journeys into royal life.

According to a palace insider speaking to Rob Shuter, Queen Elizabeth II was particularly pleased that Harry had found someone he loved and wanted the relationship to succeed.

“The Queen was thrilled Harry had found someone he loved. She saw it as a fresh start, and nobody wanted to jeopardize that happiness,” the insider reportedly claimed.

The suggestion is that Meghan’s introduction to the Royal Family was handled differently because of the importance placed on Harry’s happiness at the time.

Catherine, by comparison, had a considerably longer journey before becoming William’s wife. She dated the future King for almost a decade before their wedding in April 2011, giving the palace years to become familiar with her background, family and personal circumstances.

That extended relationship meant Catherine had considerable time to establish connections within the royal establishment before taking on her future responsibilities as a senior royal.

Meghan’s circumstances were quite different. She met Prince Harry in 2016, and the couple announced their engagement in November 2017 before marrying at Windsor Castle in May 2018.

The considerably shorter timeline meant the palace had less time to become acquainted with Meghan before she officially joined the Royal Family.

The reported differences have also brought renewed attention to the question of how thoroughly the two women were assessed before their respective marriages.

While Catherine gradually became familiar with royal expectations over several years, Meghan’s transition from her career as an American actress to life as a working royal happened within a much shorter period.

Over time, Kate established herself through public engagements, charitable work and her growing responsibilities alongside Prince William.

Her supporters have frequently praised her measured approach to royal duties, highlighting her commitment to the institution and her ability to adapt to the expectations surrounding her position.

Meghan, meanwhile, experienced a very different chapter after marrying Harry. The couple stepped back from their senior royal roles in 2020 and relocated to the United States, where they began building an independent life.

Their subsequent public comments about their experiences within the palace further intensified comparisons between the two royal wives.

Although the insider’s account offers one explanation for the different approaches, it remains an attributed claim rather than an independently established account of the palace’s vetting procedures.

Nevertheless, the contrasting timelines of Kate and Meghan’s royal journeys continue to fuel debate about how differently the two women entered one of the world’s most scrutinised families.
