King Charles Faces Invictus Games Dilemma as Majority of Reject Harry Reunion Appearance in Poll

King Charles could face an uncomfortable decision over Prince Harry’s upcoming Invictus Games after a poll found overwhelming opposition among participating readers to the monarch attending the event in support of his son.
The Duke of Sussex is preparing for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, bringing the international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans back to the UK.
Harry’s involvement has prompted speculation about whether King Charles might attend, potentially creating a rare public moment involving the father and son after years of strained relations.
However, a poll conducted by The Daily Express suggests that many of its participating readers are against the idea.
The publication asked: “Should King Charles attend next year’s Invictus Games?” According to the reported results, 94 per cent voted against the King making an appearance.
The figures represent the views of people who took part in the newspaper’s poll and should not be treated as a measurement of opinion across the entire British public.
Some respondents suggested that the King could instead send other senior members of the Royal Family to represent him at the sporting event.
Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, were among the names mentioned by readers who favoured an alternative royal presence.
One commenter wrote: “The King should definitely NOT attend Invictus, but he could easily dispatch Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, for the event!”
Another participant also opposed the monarch attending, arguing that the Royal Family should maintain distance from Harry and Meghan.
“No, he should not attend! The King needs to distance himself and the rest of the Royal family from Harry and Meghan,” the reader wrote.
The debate highlights the continuing public interest in whether Charles and Harry could eventually share a public occasion, particularly now that the Invictus Games are scheduled to return to Britain.
Harry founded the Invictus Games to support wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans through the power of sport. The event remains one of his most significant charitable commitments.
The possibility of the King attending would therefore carry attention beyond the sporting competition, given the wider family tensions surrounding the Duke’s relationship with the monarchy.
However, there has been no confirmed announcement that Charles has been invited, agreed to attend or is considering sending Edward and Sophie in his place.
The King’s eventual decision, if an invitation is made, would be separate from the views expressed in the newspaper poll.
For now, the 2027 Birmingham Games remain an important event for Harry and the veteran community, while questions about whether his father will appear alongside him continue to attract attention.
