Prince Harry ‘Eager’ to Reclaim Precious Piece of Diana’s History for Meghan in Bold Power Move
Prince Harry is reportedly considering a dramatic move involving one of Princess Diana’s most iconic possessions, with an insider claiming the Duke wants to acquire his late mother’s famous “revenge dress” for Meghan Markle.
The claim comes after a difficult period for the Sussexes, who have faced renewed scrutiny since returning to Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet and attempting to establish their new routine outside the working monarchy.
King Charles recently reaffirmed Harry and Meghan’s institutional status through correspondence issued by the Lord Chamberlain, reiterating that they remain non-working royals whose charitable and commercial activities are undertaken independently rather than on behalf of the sovereign.
Another reported disappointment followed when a Diana Award gala dinner, at which Harry and Meghan had been expected to appear, was cancelled shortly before it was due to take place.
Royal commentator Charlotte Griffiths suggested tensions involving Prince William and Meghan’s potential attendance may have contributed to complications surrounding the event. However, the actual reason for the cancellation has not been officially confirmed.
Against that backdrop, Harry is now reportedly interested in reclaiming a particularly symbolic piece of Diana’s history. The late Princess’s celebrated black “revenge dress” is set to be offered for sale, creating an opportunity for a new owner to acquire it.
According to an insider cited by Rob Shuter, Harry views the dress as considerably more than a valuable piece of royal fashion history and believes it represents his mother asserting control over her own public image.
“Harry sees that dress as a symbol of his mother taking back her power,” the source claimed, explaining why the Duke could potentially have a strong emotional interest in acquiring the famous garment.
“Diana wore it to clap back at Charles, Camilla and an institution that had made her miserable,” the insider alleged. “In Harry’s mind, Meghan understands that story better than almost anyone.”
Diana famously wore the Christina Stambolian little black dress to London’s Serpentine Gallery in 1994. Its appearance became one of her defining fashion moments and was subsequently interpreted as a statement of independence during a turbulent period in her personal life.
The source claimed Harry is particularly concerned about the possibility of the dress simply becoming an unseen investment after its sale. He reportedly “doesn’t want it disappearing into a collector’s closet” and would prefer it to retain a visible connection with Diana.
Harry allegedly believes Meghan could provide that connection. “To Harry, Meghan wearing or simply owning Diana’s revenge dress would be incredibly powerful,” the insider said, suggesting possession alone could carry considerable symbolism for the Duke.
“It would say: Diana survived them, Meghan survived them and neither woman allowed the Palace to define her,” the source continued, drawing a provocative comparison between Harry’s mother and wife that reflects the insider’s interpretation rather than an official Sussex statement.
There has been no confirmation from Harry or Meghan that they intend to bid for Diana’s dress, meaning claims about the proposed purchase remain speculation. If Harry does enter the race, however, acquiring the historic garment for Meghan would inevitably generate enormous attention and reopen debate surrounding the parallels he reportedly sees between his wife and his late mother.
