Prince William Reportedly Furious as Meghan Markle Demands to Be Called “Sussex” on Netflix Show

Prince William is said to be boiling with frustration over Meghan Markle’s latest move — and it all stems from how she’s using her royal title on screen. The Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix show With Love, Meghan has sparked fresh outrage behind palace walls, and her brother-in-law is reportedly at the center of it.

In one episode of the lifestyle and cooking series, Meghan corrected actress Mindy Kaling for calling her by her maiden name. With a cheeky grin, she interrupted, “It’s so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m ‘Sussex’ now.” That seemingly lighthearted moment didn’t sit well with Prince William.

A source close to the royal household told Radar that Meghan’s insistence on being addressed by her duchess title “has irritated William beyond belief.” According to the insider, William sees it as yet another example of Meghan using her royal status for personal branding — something he and other senior royals are not keen to see.

The show’s release last month triggered immediate backlash from royal commentators who feel Meghan is exploiting her royal connection while living in California, far from the duties expected of titled royals.

Adding to the tension is King Charles’ ongoing decision to not strip Harry and Meghan of their “Duke and Duchess of Sussex” titles — a choice Prince William reportedly finds deeply frustrating.

While Queen Elizabeth II removed their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) designations in 2020 following their step back from official duties, she left their peerage titles intact. This has left a door open for Meghan to continue using “Duchess” — a point that continues to spark fierce debate.

William, who has worked to protect the monarchy’s reputation and streamline the institution, is said to believe that the Sussexes’ actions undermine those efforts. The insider claims he views the Netflix appearance as “brand monetization disguised as royalty.”

This isn’t the first time Meghan and Harry’s media ventures have rubbed the royals the wrong way. Since their dramatic exit in 2020, the couple has launched a full media offensive — starting with their bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, which accused unnamed royals of racism.

Then came their 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan, where the couple doubled down on their claims of mistreatment by the Royal Family. The most damaging blow, however, arrived with the release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare in 2023, which laid bare deeply personal rifts between him, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.

That tell-all book painted William as angry, cold, and even physically aggressive — sparking one of the deepest divides in modern royal history.

Now, with Meghan continuing to embrace her duchess persona in the public eye, William’s frustration appears to be reaching new heights. Many insiders claim the Prince of Wales had hoped the Sussexes would fade quietly into private life, but instead, they’ve become louder — and bolder — with each passing project.

Critics argue that Meghan’s new cooking show, while seemingly wholesome on the surface, is simply another stage to maintain the “royal mystique” without the responsibilities that come with it.

Whether or not King Charles will finally act and reconsider the Sussexes’ titles remains to be seen. For now, royal fans can only watch as tensions rise and family ties continue to fray — one Netflix episode at a time.

If Meghan’s goal was to stay in the headlines, she’s succeeding. But at what cost to her already fragile relationship with the Royal Family.
