Prince Harry’s Subtle Gesture to Prince William Resurfaces as Expert Spots Hope Beneath Royal Rift
Prince Harry’s subtle gesture towards Prince William during one of their most closely watched joint appearances has resurfaced, with a body language expert suggesting it revealed an enduring sense of respect for his older brother despite their bitter royal rift.
Relations between King Charles two sons are widely reported to remain deeply strained after years of public disagreements, accusations and revelations surrounding Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from working royal life.
Recent reports have suggested William has hardened his position further, with one source claiming the Prince of Wales is “doubling down” on his stance towards Harry rather than moving towards an immediate reconciliation.
The source went so far as to claim William is “back at the point where if you mention Prince Harry in his presence he would throw you out of the room,” although this remains an insider account rather than a statement from William.
Despite such bleak assessments, some royal observers believe the brothers’ shared history means the possibility of eventually establishing a more civil relationship should not necessarily be dismissed.
Body language expert Judi James has pointed to one particularly significant public appearance as evidence that Harry may still instinctively recognise William’s senior royal position despite the personal bitterness between them.
“These two men have shared unique moments and experiences and forged the strongest of bonds as they have done so,” James told the Daily Mail while discussing the brothers’ complicated relationship.
“It’s possible that no one will ever understand them as well as they do each other,” she added, suggesting their shared childhood and extraordinary experiences could remain a connection even during periods of estrangement.
James highlighted the memorable Windsor walkabout following Queen Elizabeth II’s death, when William, Kate, Harry and Meghan unexpectedly appeared together to meet members of the public and view tributes.
The appearance of the former “Fab Four” generated enormous attention because relations between the two couples were already strained, yet they temporarily presented a united public front during a deeply significant moment for the royal family.
According to James, Harry demonstrated respect for William during the appearance by allowing his older brother and Catherine to take precedence. “Harry rose to the occasion here by very elegantly allowing William and his wife the right of way,” she explained.
James believes the gesture reflected ingrained royal behaviour. She claimed that despite Harry’s frustration surrounding the “Spare” label, he can still “quickly and naturally revert to his role as William’s ‘wing man’” when appearing publicly alongside him.
“It’s as though the royal clockwork is still whirring away as well-oiled as ever, with all its protocols and ingrained sense of teamwork,” James said, interpreting Harry’s behaviour as evidence that years of royal training remain instinctive.
Body-language interpretations cannot establish Harry’s private feelings or prove that reconciliation is approaching. Nevertheless, the resurfaced moment offers a rare example of the brothers functioning together despite their differences, suggesting that even amid their ongoing estrangement, Harry can still publicly acknowledge William’s position and fall back into the familiar royal dynamic they once shared.
