Buckingham Palace has shifted attention back towards the work of senior royals with an optimistic update about Prince Edward as controversy surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain continues generating intense headlines.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been back in the United Kingdom for only around two weeks when King Charles’ office issued a significant clarification concerning their position outside the working monarchy.

According to the Palace, discussions during Edward’s programme explored how young people could be helped to develop “confidence, resilience, judgement, teamwork and a sense of purpose” through opportunities extending beyond traditional education.
The visit also carried particular significance because it marked the 70th year of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the country, giving Edward an opportunity to highlight the programme’s longstanding contribution to youth development.
The Palace said the anniversary delivered a “clear” message that young people develop lasting abilities when given opportunities to challenge themselves, serve their communities and discover what they are capable of achieving.
Edward’s overseas work provided Buckingham Palace with an opportunity to focus attention on the monarchy’s public service activities while speculation surrounding Harry, Meghan and their relationship with Charles continues dominating sections of royal coverage.
