Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Honour Promise to King Charles With Surprise New Announcement

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced a new overseas engagement in Belgium, reportedly honouring their promise to King Charles to avoid clashing with the Royal Family’s official schedule despite continuing family tensions.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be mindful of the royal diary, with sources previously suggesting they do not want their engagements to overlap with important royal commitments.

Their latest announcement came just as King Charles returned home after completing his high-profile Caribbean tour, revealing another important project for the Sussexes.

Harry and Meghan will travel to Brussels on Tuesday to attend the opening of the Lost Screen Memorial, dedicated to children who lost their lives because of the harms associated with social media.

The visit reflects the couple’s continuing commitment to children’s safety, an issue they have repeatedly highlighted through their public work and charitable activities.

As parents of Archie and Lilibet, the Sussexes have advocated for safer online and offline environments, particularly as children face growing challenges in the digital world.

The memorial is part of an initiative that has already reached other international locations, with its first installation unveiled in New York in April 2025.

A second memorial was subsequently unveiled at Geneva’s Place des Nations in May, with Meghan taking part in the occasion.

The Brussels event will therefore mark another important step in bringing attention to the impact of social media-related harm on children and families.

The timing of the Sussexes’ visit has also attracted attention because it will conclude ahead of another major royal engagement involving Prince William.

The Prince of Wales is preparing for the next Earthshot Prize ceremony in India on November 17, with Princess Kate also expected to join her husband for the occasion.

The separate schedules mean Harry and Meghan’s Belgian engagement is set to take place without overlapping with William’s important environmental event.

Their reported effort to remain mindful of the royal calendar comes amid continuing speculation about the relationship between the Sussexes and the wider Royal Family.

Although tensions have remained a subject of public discussion, the couple’s latest announcement places their focus on an issue they have consistently championed.

For Harry and Meghan, the Brussels visit offers another opportunity to highlight children’s digital safety while carrying out international work independently of their former royal duties.
