Prince Harry Accidentally Crashed England Rugby’s Crisis Meeting After Six Nations Defeat

Prince Harry once found himself sitting unnoticed in the corner of a crucial England rugby meeting after a disappointing Six Nations defeat, with former captain Chris Robshaw recalling the unexpected moment years later.

The Duke of Sussex was a familiar face around the England rugby team, having developed a strong interest in the sport and regularly spending time with players and staff during training sessions.

Robshaw, who captained England between 2012 and 2015, recently shared the amusing memory during an interview with i Paper, reflecting on some of the most memorable moments of his sporting career.

He described Harry as a “big, big rugby man” who enjoyed being around the team and mixing with the players rather than simply appearing for formal occasions.

“He just loved to be around the place, mixing it with the players,” Robshaw recalled. “He was who he was, but he was a very normal guy in that environment.”

However, one particular visit apparently left the former captain with a story he would remember long after his playing days.

Robshaw explained that England had suffered a defeat in their opening Six Nations match, a result that ended their hopes of winning the Grand Slam and placed considerable pressure on the team.

The following Monday, the leadership group gathered to discuss how they could recover from the setback. Robshaw said the meeting included senior players Owen Farrell, Brad Barritt and Dylan Hartley, alongside the coaching staff.

But as they began discussing the team’s problems, they noticed an unexpected guest sitting quietly in the corner: Prince Harry.

“We were having a leadership meeting. We had lost our first game in the Six Nations, and that’s crunch time because you can’t win a Grand Slam,” Robshaw explained.

He continued by describing how he entered the room with the leadership group and coaches, only to find the Duke already there as they tried to work out how to get the team back on track.

The former England captain appeared to remember the incident with amusement, particularly because Harry had seemingly found himself in a meeting that was intended for the team’s senior figures.

Despite the seriousness of the discussion, the prince apparently understood that it was not the moment to interrupt. Robshaw said Harry “knew to keep quiet though”.

The story offers a glimpse into Harry’s long-standing enthusiasm for rugby and the informal relationships he built with players during his time supporting the sport.

It also highlights how comfortable the Duke appeared to be around the England squad, where he was remembered as someone who enjoyed spending time with the team rather than standing apart from them.

Harry’s relationship with rugby has remained a familiar part of his public life, including his involvement with the sport through charitable and sporting initiatives.

Although the unexpected meeting took place years ago, Robshaw’s recollection has brought the amusing moment back into the spotlight, offering another reminder of Harry’s close connection with England rugby.
