Princess Kate Gets Bad News From Prince Harry and Meghan as Sussexes Unveil Major UK Plans
Princess Kate could face an unexpectedly challenging period following her return to full royal life as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new plans for public in United Kingdom raise concerns about competing attention.
The Princess of Wales has gradually rebuilt her public schedule after overcoming serious health challenges, making an inspiring return to official engagements and completing her first overseas tour to Italy following cancer treatment.
Kate has also been making appearances connected with projects close to her heart, beginning a new working period in which she is expected to continue balancing major royal responsibilities with the priorities she has championed personally.
However, royal commentator Daniela Elser believes Harry and Meghan’s extended return to Britain could complicate that period because the Sussexes apparently have no intention of maintaining an entirely private or low-profile existence.
Writing for News.au, Elser said: “It does not appear the Sussexes have any plans to sit quietly in the shires to reclusively collect delphinium cuttings and rescue dogs.”
Instead, Harry is expected to undertake a series of engagements in Britain, while his Invictus Games project will receive growing attention as preparations continue for the Birmingham edition scheduled for 2027.
Meghan is also reportedly interested in resuming charitable work in the United Kingdom, potentially reconnecting with causes she previously supported while continuing her independent projects outside the working royal family.
That combination has led Elser to question whether the Sussexes’ appearances could repeatedly compete with Kate’s engagements for public and media attention during an important period in the Princess’s return.
“For Kate, what are the chances of Harry and Meghan’s off-brand royalling not stealing all the available thunder?” she wrote, using the phrase to describe the Sussexes’ independent public activities.
Elser went even further with her assessment of the potential difficulty facing Catherine, declaring: “Kate’s new working royal year is shaping up to be hell.”
However, there is no evidence Harry and Meghan are deliberately scheduling their activities to compete with Kate or undermine her work. Concerns about the Sussexes “stealing” royal attention remain the interpretation of commentators rather than an established strategy by the couple.
Royal commentator Hugo Vickers has nevertheless raised similar concerns about what could happen if Harry and Meghan establish a substantial programme of public appearances while living for extended periods in Britain.
Vickers warned that if the Sussexes “intend to be public figures and carry out more of these appearances, they will inevitably be in competition with the royal family—effectively setting up an alternative court.”
“That is not a positive development,” he added, highlighting fears that two highly visible royal-related operations could create confusion despite King Charles recently clarifying that Harry and Meghan do not represent the monarchy.
For Kate, the coming months therefore present an unusual challenge as she continues rebuilding her royal programme after cancer treatment. Harry and Meghan’s increased British presence could generate competing headlines, but whether that actually develops into an “alternative court” or deliberate rivalry remains speculation rather than evidence of a Sussex plan to overshadow the Princess.
