King Charles Faces Fresh Royal Headache as Another Palace Insider Plans Tell All Project
King Charles is facing the prospect of another sensitive royal tell all just as Buckingham Palace deals with the late Queen Elizabeth’s former confidante Angela Kelly reportedly planning a new project, after claims from Charles Spencer’s Princess Diana memoir
The King has appeared calm during his recent public engagements, but behind Palace walls attention remains firmly fixed on Spencer’s forthcoming memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, and the disputed recollections it contains.
Diana remains one of the most recognisable figures in modern royal history, while the breakdown of her marriage to the then-Prince Charles and her subsequent death created an exceptionally difficult period for the monarchy.
Spencer’s decision to revisit those years has already prompted an unusual intervention from Buckingham Palace after one of his claims concerned an alleged conversation with Charles around the time of Diana’s funeral.
The Palace suggested that intense grief can affect judgment and “colour memory,” effectively questioning Spencer’s recollection without directly accusing Diana’s brother of deliberately providing an inaccurate account.
Now, another potentially uncomfortable development is reportedly emerging. Angela Kelly, who served as Queen Elizabeth’s personal dresser and became one of her trusted aides, is said to be preparing a documentary involving her royal experiences.
Kelly spent years close to the late Queen and was consequently exposed to parts of royal life rarely seen by the public, making any new account from her potentially significant.
Royal author Phil Dampier noted that Kelly had previously received permission to write three books about her experiences, two of which have already been published.
“Angela Kelly was given permission to write three books and she has written two,” Dampier told the Daily Mail, before claiming that some material previously published by Kelly had caused concern for Charles.
According to Dampier, Charles was particularly unhappy about intimate details concerning Queen Elizabeth following Prince Philip’s death, including Kelly’s description of the grieving monarch sitting on her bed and staring into space.
“Charles thought that was intrusive and unfair on the late Queen,” Dampier claimed. There has been no new public statement from the King confirming his feelings about Kelly’s reported documentary plans.
Following Queen Elizabeth’s death, Kelly left her grace-and-favour residence but was reportedly provided with another property in northern England, an arrangement that attracted considerable attention at the time.
Dampier said he had understood the arrangement was partly intended to encourage discretion and believed Kelly had subsequently settled into a quieter life. He suggested her latest reported move may therefore not be welcomed by some royals.
With Spencer’s memoir already bringing sensitive family history back into public discussion, reports of another insider project add another potential complication for the Palace. Whether Kelly’s documentary ultimately contains significant new revelations remains unclear, but its timing could ensure King Charles faces continued scrutiny over the monarchy’s past.
