Queen Camilla nearly made a surprising appearance in the United States before Meghan Markle’s UK comeback and reported plans to return to acting according to the showrunner of the hit series Only Murders in the Building.
The revelation has emerged as Meghan is reportedly linked with a possible role in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen, although uncertainty remains over whether those reported discussions will ultimately result in a deal.
While Meghan’s potential acting comeback has attracted attention, Camilla was apparently once considered for a guest appearance on Only Murders in the Building, whose upcoming sixth season is set primarily in London.
John Hoffman, the executive producer and showrunner of the popular comedy-mystery series, revealed the surprising possibility during a recent interview with Vulture, admitting that the idea of having royalty appear on the show had genuinely been discussed.
“We almost got Camilla,” Hoffman said. “I know it’s insane, but yes, there was a moment,” revealing that the Queen Consort came remarkably close to joining the cast for the London-based season.
Hoffman explained that he was initially unaware of the possibility and only learned about the potential appearance through the show’s casting team, leaving him stunned by the prospect.
“I was like, ‘Wait, what? Is that real?’” he recalled with a laugh, explaining that the production team subsequently explored the possibility of making the unusual casting idea work.
Although details of the proposed storyline involving Camilla have not been revealed, Hoffman indicated that the possibility came with several practical complications that had to be considered before anything could move forward.
One of the biggest obstacles involved strict UK union rules governing working hours. According to Hoffman, production would have been limited to “ten-hour days”, creating additional challenges for the team if they wanted to accommodate the Queen’s schedule.
The production would also have needed to carefully coordinate filming dates around Camilla’s existing royal responsibilities, potentially creating delays if her availability did not align with the requirements of the series.
“I did pursue it a little bit, until I realised it’s going to be a whole thing,” Hoffman explained, suggesting that the logistical complications ultimately made the potential appearance far more difficult than initially expected.
The revelation comes at an interesting time for Meghan, who is reportedly considering a return to acting years after stepping away from the profession before marrying Prince Harry and becoming a working member of the Royal Family.
