Duchess Sophie Raises Concern as Edinburgh Family Faces Important Lady Louise Decision
Duchess Sophie is reportedly concerned that Lady Louise Windsor may be moving too quickly towards marriage, as she and Prince Edward are said to hold differing views over their daughter’s increasingly serious relationship with Felix da Silva-Clamp.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh recently celebrated Louise’s graduation from the University of St Andrews, marking the end of an important chapter for their 22-year-old daughter.
Their younger child, James, Earl of Wessex, is also beginning a new stage of his life, with the teenager heading to the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
With both children becoming increasingly independent, Edward and Sophie are continuing their busy schedules as working royals while reportedly facing an important family discussion about Louise’s future.
According to New Idea, Louise and Felix have become increasingly serious about their relationship following their time together at St Andrews, prompting speculation that an engagement could eventually be announced.
“Louise and Felix are very serious about their relationship and talking about their future together, from having kids to buying a house,” an insider told the publication.
However, the source claimed Sophie has reservations about the couple making such a major commitment at a relatively young age and would prefer them not to rush their decision.
“Getting married is a stepping stone, but for a career woman like Sophie, she’s genuinely worried they are both way too young,” the insider alleged.
Edward, meanwhile, is said to take a different position. According to the report, the Duke believes his daughter should be allowed to make her own choices without excessive parental interference.
The source linked Edward’s reported attitude to his own experiences before marrying Sophie, claiming he sees benefits in Louise finding a stable relationship without having her private romantic history repeatedly revisited later.
“Edward thinks she should stay out of it, pointing out the virtues of not accumulating an extensive romantic past, only to have it come back and humiliate them like it has for him with some of his exes,” the insider claimed.
The comments come amid renewed attention on one of Edward’s previous relationships following the release of a memoir discussing aspects of a five-year romance from his younger years.
Despite their alleged differences over how quickly Louise should move forward, there is no indication of a serious disagreement between Edward and Sophie. The engagement claims themselves also remain unconfirmed, with neither Louise nor Felix announcing plans to marry.
For now, the Edinburghs are reportedly putting their daughter’s happiness first as she adjusts to life after university. Whether an engagement is actually approaching remains uncertain, but Louise’s graduation and serious relationship mean Edward and Sophie are entering a very different phase of parenthood, one in which their children are increasingly making major decisions for themselves.
