Queen Camilla Plays Key Role in King Charles Meeting With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Queen Camilla played a key role in King Charles private meeting with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Highgrove House, where the monarch was reunited with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Queen is said to have remained by the King’s side throughout the long-awaited family gathering.
On July 10, King Charles welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to his Gloucestershire residence for a private reunion. The meeting also brought together the King and his youngest grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after years apart.
The family gathering attracted widespread attention as it marked one of the most significant private royal meetings in recent years. However, Buckingham Palace has released no photographs or detailed account of what took place behind closed doors.
According to royal commentator Sally Bedell Smith, Queen Camilla’s presence during the reunion was particularly significant. She suggested the Queen played an important supporting role throughout the private meeting.
“Significantly, Queen Camilla was by her husband’s side, not least to serve as a witness to Charles’s interactions with his volatile younger son—as she had been in February 2024 when Harry came to London after Charles’s cancer diagnosis was revealed,” Smith said.
The royal commentator noted that Camilla had also accompanied the King during Harry’s previous visit following Charles’ cancer diagnosis. Her continued presence is seen as reflecting the close support she provides the monarch during sensitive family matters.
Prince Harry’s latest visit to the United Kingdom drew considerable attention after reports suggested his travel plans changed several times before the family reunion was finalized. Despite the uncertainty, the meeting ultimately went ahead at Highgrove House.
According to published reports, the Duke was pleased to secure the opportunity for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to spend time with their grandfather. The visit marked an important personal milestone for the Sussex family.
However, reports also claimed that strict conditions were attached to the private gathering. The Sussexes were reportedly required to respect the family’s privacy throughout the visit.
According to those reports, no photographs were permitted, and details of the private conversations were not to be shared publicly or on social media. Buckingham Palace has not commented on the reported arrangements.
The reunion represented the first visit to the United Kingdom by Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet together since Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. The occasion therefore carried particular significance for the Royal Family.
Although many details remain private, the Highgrove meeting has been viewed as an important opportunity for King Charles to reconnect with his son and grandchildren. Queen Camilla’s reported presence throughout the gathering highlighted the supportive role she continues to play alongside the King.
Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have publicly discussed the conversations that took place during the reunion. As a result, much of the information surrounding the meeting remains based on commentary and published reports.
While the long-term impact of the Highgrove gathering remains uncertain, the reunion marked a rare moment of family unity after years of strained relations. For King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet, the private meeting represented one of the most closely watched royal events of the year.
