Prince William and Prince Harry’s Feud Takes Unexpected Toll on Their Last Shared Bond
Prince William and Prince Harry’s ongoing feud is reportedly placing fresh strain on one of their last shared connections, after a major event linked to the Diana Award was abruptly cancelled just two weeks before it was scheduled to take place.
Despite years of tension between the estranged brothers, their commitment to preserving Princess Diana’s legacy has remained an important area of common ground, particularly through their continued support for the charity established in her memory.
The Diana Award was launched in 1999 to recognise and encourage young people making positive changes within their communities, and both William and Harry have continued supporting its work despite the deterioration of their personal relationship.
However, royal reporter Charlotte Griffiths has claimed that tensions behind the scenes contributed to complications surrounding an upcoming black-tie gala dinner that was due to take place at Raffles London at The OWO.
The event had reportedly been scheduled for September 18 but was unexpectedly cancelled around two weeks beforehand, raising questions about what could have caused such a significant last-minute change to the charity’s plans.
According to Griffiths, William and Harry effectively take turns when it comes to organising events connected with the Diana Award, with the latest occasion reportedly falling on Harry’s side of the arrangement.
Complications allegedly emerged when it became known that Meghan Markle wanted to become involved in the event following her return to Britain alongside Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Griffiths suggested William was uncomfortable with Meghan’s potential participation, although no official statement from the Prince of Wales, the Sussexes or the Diana Award has confirmed that this was behind the cancellation.
“Maybe The Diana Award is kind of one of their last forms of communication,” Griffiths said, suggesting the charity could provide an unusual indirect connection between brothers who are otherwise reported to have limited personal contact.
“So maybe this is the last vehicle they have,” she continued, before raising the possibility that Meghan’s involvement created an additional difficulty between William and Harry as plans for the event progressed.
“Is it okay if Harry brings his wife? Possibly not, if you’re Prince William,” Griffiths added. Her remarks, however, remain commentary rather than confirmation of William’s personal position regarding Meghan attending the gala.
The reported disagreement is particularly significant because Diana’s legacy has historically remained an issue capable of bringing the brothers onto common ground, even when their relationship has been strained by wider family disputes.
If tensions are now affecting events associated with their mother’s charity, it could suggest that maintaining even this shared connection has become increasingly complicated. However, the exact nature of any “backdoor talks” between their representatives remains unclear.
For now, the real reason behind the gala’s cancellation has not been officially revealed. Claims that William objected to Meghan’s involvement therefore remain unconfirmed, but the sudden decision has inevitably fuelled fresh speculation about whether the brothers’ feud is beginning to affect one of the final causes they continue to share.
