Prince William Reacts As Princess Kate and Meghan Compete for Meaningful Position in Diana’s Legacy

Prince William is reportedly unhappy about Meghan Markle’s alleged involvement in Prince Harry’s planned documentary honouring Princess Diana, as new claims suggest the brothers have very different views over who best represents their late mother’s legacy.

The latest claims emerge at a delicate moment for the royal family, with hopes of eventual reconciliation beginning to surface following Harry and Meghan’s return to Britain and reports suggesting some communication may be taking place between the estranged brothers.

However, Harry’s reported documentary project could create another obstacle. The Duke of Sussex is said to be planning a special production paying tribute to Diana, with Meghan expected to have an important role behind the scenes.

Daily Mail Senior Editor-at-Large Richard Kay previously reported that Harry had been contacting friends and others who knew his mother, asking them to contribute their memories and experiences to the proposed project about the late Princess.

Now, an insider speaking to Woman’s Day has claimed William is “horrified” by the prospect, particularly because Meghan’s involvement could revive comparisons between the Duchess of Sussex and Diana that have circulated throughout Harry and Meghan’s relationship.

From Harry’s perspective, however, involving his wife reportedly makes sense because Meghan is his production partner and has experience working on media projects, meaning she could potentially contribute significantly to the documentary’s development.

“From Harry’s perspective, it makes perfect sense to have Meghan heavily involved in this project,” the insider claimed. “She’s his producing partner, and she brings a ton of expertise to the table.”

The source also suggested Harry sees similarities between Meghan and his mother. Such comparisons are reportedly particularly frustrating for William, who is said to have a very different view about the woman carrying Diana’s qualities today.

According to the insider, the Sussexes have already been “collecting footage with the full support of the Spencers,” potentially allowing the proposed documentary to move forward despite William’s reported objections to the project.

The source claimed William “can’t stand the narrative that Meghan is somehow this Diana 2.0,” suggesting the future King strongly objects to attempts to portray his sister-in-law as a modern equivalent of his late mother.

William is also reportedly upset by the idea of Harry and Meghan taking control of a major Diana tribute in Britain, although there has been no official statement from the Prince of Wales confirming his feelings about the reported production.

According to the same source, William believes Princess Kate has demonstrated qualities that more closely reflect Diana’s legacy, particularly through her commitment to charitable causes and her approach towards carrying out public responsibilities.

The insider claimed William believes “if anyone is like Diana, it’s Kate,” describing the Princess of Wales as devoted to his mother’s memory while suggesting her approach is considerably more understated.

However, the reported comparison between Kate and Meghan comes entirely from unnamed-source claims, and there is no indication that either woman personally considers herself to be competing for Diana’s legacy or a special position associated with the late Princess.

For William and Harry, Diana’s memory remains deeply personal to both brothers. If reports about Harry’s documentary are accurate, Meghan’s involvement could nevertheless become another sensitive issue between them just as tentative hopes emerge that their long-running family rift may eventually begin to heal.
