Prince Harry’s Reunion With Prince William Blocked by One Major Problem
Prince Harry’s hopes of eventually repairing his relationship with Prince William could face one major obstacle, with a royal expert claiming the future King remains particularly upset about comments involving his wife, Princess Kate.
There was once a time when reconciliation between Harry and King Charles also appeared extremely difficult. Relations deteriorated following the Sussexes’ departure from royal duties and the subsequent public claims made about the monarchy.
One of the biggest blows came when Harry and Meghan Markle were asked to leave Frogmore Cottage following the publication of the Duke’s memoir Spare. Reports suggested Charles had been angered by some of Harry’s remarks, particularly those concerning Queen Camilla.
Harry’s comments surrounding his security dispute and his criticism of the royal establishment also added to tensions. Nevertheless, the relationship between father and son has reportedly undergone a surprising shift during the Sussexes’ latest chapter.
Harry and his family reportedly met Charles earlier this year, and weeks later the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to Britain, bringing renewed attention to whether similar progress could eventually be made with William and Kate.
Royal watchers are now looking closely at the Prince and Princess of Wales for signs of what could happen next. However, royal biographer Robert Jobson believes William has a significant sticking point preventing an easy reunion with his younger brother.
According to Jobson, William may be able to tolerate criticism directed towards himself, but comments involving Catherine are a different matter, particularly because the Princess does not normally publicly respond to claims or criticism surrounding the royal family.
The situation is especially poignant because Harry once shared a warm relationship with his sister-in-law and previously referred to Catherine as the “sister he never had,” making the deterioration in their relationship particularly striking.
“I think he could take a lot of things being said about him,” Jobson explained while discussing William’s position and the lasting impact of the public disputes involving Harry and the Wales family.
However, the biographer added that William “wasn’t prepared to have things said about her when she’s not in a position to answer back,” suggesting his desire to protect Catherine remains central to his reluctance to reconnect.
Jobson also indicated that William and Kate are unlikely to respond publicly or become involved in another round of claims and counterclaims. Instead, the couple are expected to attempt to “rise above” the continuing noise surrounding the Sussexes.
The Waleses may also be wary of the enormous attention that any attempted reunion would generate. After years of public scrutiny surrounding the brothers’ relationship, even a private meeting could quickly become the subject of intense speculation.
“I think that they’ll probably think, well, we’ve been down this road before; It creates a circus, and we’re not going to get involved,” Jobson said, explaining why William and Kate could remain cautious despite developments elsewhere in the family.
Harry’s reported progress with Charles may have increased hopes that the wider royal rift can eventually heal, but William appears to represent a more difficult challenge. According to Jobson’s assessment, comments concerning Kate remain a major unresolved issue standing between the once-close brothers and a meaningful reunion.
