King Charles Refuses To Abandon Trusted Aide As Harry’s Old Palace Tensions Resurface

King Charles is standing by one of his most trusted aides despite Prince Harry’s past reservations about the senior Palace figure, with a royal shake-up now looming as the King’s principal private secretary prepares to leave his position.

Sir Clive Alderton, who is widely believed to have been given the nickname “The Wasp” by Harry in his memoir Spare, is set to step down from his role in 2027 after two decades of service to the Royal Household.

However, royal experts believe Alderton’s departure from his official position may not necessarily mean the end of his influence around the monarch. His long experience and close relationship with the King could allow him to remain an important source of advice.

Harry has previously expressed frustration with senior Palace aides, particularly those he believed influenced decisions involving his family. His reported objections to Alderton have therefore added another layer to the Duke’s complicated relationship with the King’s inner circle.

According to royal commentator Amanda Matta, former senior courtiers can sometimes maintain informal connections and influence at the Palace even after leaving their official positions. She suggested that Alderton could remain “a voice in the king’s ear” despite stepping down.

Matta told Fox News Digital that the former private secretary could continue offering his perspective to Charles after his departure. Such a possibility could concern Harry if he believes Alderton played a role in decisions that previously affected his relationship with the Royal Family.

Alderton’s retirement is expected to coincide with his 60th birthday. His departure will mark the end of an extraordinary 20-year period working within the royal household, during which he served both King Charles and the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Harry famously gave several senior royal staff members insect-inspired nicknames in Spare. Alderton has widely been identified as “The Wasp,” a description associated with his reputation as a fiercely loyal and determined defender of the monarchy.

Matta suggested that Palace officials’ concerns about Harry may not necessarily be based on his personal intentions. Instead, she argued that some aides could view the Duke as a potential source of further controversy because of the turmoil that has surrounded the Royal Family in recent years.

The expert also noted that Harry has historically had strong feelings about Palace advisers. His criticism has extended to members of the late Queen’s household, whom he believed had influenced his grandmother or prevented him from gaining access to her.

Harry has previously spoken about wanting to ensure that Queen Elizabeth had the “right people around her.” Matta described that comment as an early indication of his concerns about the advisers surrounding the late monarch.

Alderton was reportedly regarded as having significant access to Queen Elizabeth during the later years of her reign. According to Matta, he briefed the late Queen on both official matters and sensitive family issues, making his position particularly influential.

The issue is especially relevant now because Charles and Harry have reportedly been attempting to repair their relationship. The King privately reunited with Harry and his family at Highgrove House on July 10, marking an important moment in their efforts to rebuild communication.

Harry’s relationship with his father has improved in some respects, but tensions surrounding Palace advisers could remain an obstacle. The Duke may be willing to reconnect with Charles while remaining wary of people he believes contributed to previous family disputes.

For Charles, however, Alderton’s loyalty and decades of experience could outweigh Harry’s objections. The King may value advice from someone who has spent years understanding the demands of the monarchy and protecting the institution.

Alderton’s eventual departure could therefore represent a significant change behind Palace doors, but it may not completely remove “The Wasp” from Charles’ orbit. If the former aide continues advising the monarch informally, Harry could find that repairing his relationship with his father also means learning to navigate the King’s trusted circle.
