Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Possible Spencer Collaboration Raises Fresh Questions
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could strengthen their ties with Princess Diana’s family through charity work and even a possible collaboration involving Meghan’s brand, a development claimed to be causing unease for King Charles and Prince William.
The claims emerge as Earl Charles Spencer attracts renewed attention over Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, his memoir containing a series of striking recollections about his late sister and the Royal Family.
Among Spencer’s most controversial allegations is his claim that Charles told him the family would “forget her soon enough” during a disagreement following Diana’s death.
He has also alleged that Charles sounded as though he had “won the lottery” when discussing Diana’s death, an account that has inevitably generated headlines because of the seriousness of the suggestion.
Buckingham Palace responded unusually strongly to the controversy, although it did not address every individual allegation made in Spencer’s account.
“While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss,” the Palace said.
Spencer has stood by his recollections and also revealed that William and Harry knew he was preparing a book about their mother before its most explosive claims became public.
According to Spencer, Harry was comfortable with the memoir. However, that does not establish that the Duke agrees with every allegation contained in the book or has coordinated his uncle’s public criticism of the Palace.
Now, a separate report from Woman’s Day, citing an unnamed insider, claims Charles is particularly concerned about Harry’s closeness to his maternal relatives amid the continuing controversy.
“His Majesty loathes Charles Spencer; they have never gotten along, so the fact that Harry is so close to him does give the King good reason to worry,” the source claimed. The Palace has not publicly confirmed that description of their relationship.
The insider also claimed Diana’s siblings have provided Harry with important family support during difficult periods in his relationship with Charles and William, extending that warmth to Meghan and their children.
“They’ve always tried to protect him,” the source said, claiming Harry feels the Spencers have given his family meaningful connections in England when relations with his father and brother have been at their lowest.
Most intriguingly, the report suggested Harry and Meghan could eventually “team up” with members of the Spencer family for charitable work, while some form of collaboration connected with Meghan’s business interests was also floated as a possibility.
No such partnership has been officially announced, and claims that Charles and William are already deeply uncomfortable with the possibility remain based on unnamed-source reporting. Still, with Spencer’s memoir creating fresh tensions and Harry maintaining a close relationship with his mother’s family, any future Sussex-Spencer project would inevitably attract considerable attention.
