Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have faced an unexpected school change after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly encountered difficulties with their UK arrangements, with the Duke himself describing the family’s first weeks back as “eventful.”
Harry made the comment during his first major public appearance in London following the Sussex family’s return, while also confirming that the children were now attending school and that the family was “happy.”
However, reports suggest the beginning of Archie and Lilibet’s British school life was more complicated than originally planned, with the children reportedly switching schools just two days after the new term began.
The first school was apparently well liked by the family, but the daily commute and security arrangements reportedly proved difficult to manage, particularly while the Sussexes continue to await clarity over their protection in Britain.
According to the Daily Mail, additional privacy concerns emerged after information connected to the family began circulating publicly, potentially complicating efforts to keep their daily movements and living arrangements private.
Meghan had also shared glimpses of the family’s time in Britain on social media, after which online users reportedly attempted to identify the location where the Sussexes were staying.
A friend of Harry claimed the couple had made a serious commitment to establishing a British routine for Archie and Lilibet but had underestimated some of the practical difficulties involved.
“They have been taken unawares by the difficulties. They never planned to move the kids after such a short time. In the end they judged it all poorly,” the friend claimed.
One complication reportedly involved different school collection times. Archie was said to finish at 4:15 p.m., while Lilibet, who is in pre-prep, needed to be collected at 3 p.m., creating additional logistical challenges.
The source claimed these practical details had not been fully anticipated while the family was planning its daily routine, although the Sussexes themselves have not publicly provided a detailed explanation of the school change.
“Harry takes full responsibility for coming back to the UK without security,” the friend said, while stressing that the difficulties surrounding the children’s schooling should not simply be viewed as part of his security dispute.
The report also suggested that the Sussexes could reconsider their extended British stay if Harry does not receive the security arrangements he believes his family requires, potentially returning to Montecito around the school term break.
There has been no confirmation from Harry or Meghan that such a return has been decided. Harry’s own latest comments were considerably more positive, telling Hello! Magazine that “the kids are in school, and we’re all happy.”
Changing schools shortly after starting can require another period of adjustment for young children, although there is no direct evidence that Archie or Lilibet has personally experienced significant stress.
