Charles Spencer Reveals What Prince William and Prince Harry Already Knew Before Diana Book Bombshells
Charles Spencer has revealed that Prince William and Prince Harry already knew about the explosive claims contained in his new Princess Diana memoir before they became public, insisting the revelations about their mother and King Charles will not be a surprise to either brother.
The brothers have remained publicly silent as Spencer promotes Swan Song: Diana, My Sister a deeply personal account of his late sister containing several disputed recollections involving their father, King Charles.
Diana’s younger brother has now addressed how his revelations could affect William and Harry during an interview with the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, while remaining careful about revealing details of private conversations with his nephews.
Several excerpts from the forthcoming memoir have attracted attention because they concern the then-Prince Charles and events surrounding Diana during one of the Royal Family’s most difficult periods.
Among them are Spencer’s claims about Charles’ reaction following Diana’s death and an alleged heated conversation concerning arrangements for her funeral, recollections that have been disputed by Buckingham Palace.
The Palace took the unusual step of responding despite its general policy of not commenting on books, suggesting that intense fraternal grief can “cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory.”
Spencer strongly rejected that suggestion and has continued standing by his account, ensuring that the disagreement surrounding the memoir has remained firmly in the royal spotlight ahead of its full release.
During his BBC interview, Spencer was asked whether reopening these events almost three decades after Diana’s death could cause renewed pain and anguish for her two sons.
The Earl suggested the material would not come as new information to William or Harry, although he declined to disclose precisely what he has discussed privately with either prince.
“I don’t like to talk about what I’ve been speaking about to William and Harry but this will not be a surprise to them I will tell you that,” Spencer said.
“These words will not be a surprise to them,” he added, indicating that at least the substance of the stories contained in his memoir is already familiar to both of Diana’s sons.
His comments do not establish whether William or Harry agrees with Spencer’s version of events. Neither prince has publicly endorsed the disputed allegations or challenged Buckingham Palace’s response.
The situation nevertheless places both brothers close to a sensitive disagreement. Harry has reportedly been working to improve his personal relationship with Charles, while William continues carrying out his responsibilities alongside the King as heir to the throne.
Spencer’s revelation therefore adds another dimension to the controversy without revealing where either prince stands. William and Harry may already know the stories their uncle is telling, but their continued silence leaves unanswered the more significant question of what they privately make of his decision to publish them.
