Responding to the joke, Harry smiled and explained that the school offered opportunities in almost every activity. He said, “It was such a posh school that everything was an option. There was a football team.”
The Duke also reflected on his own football experience while attending Eton. He admitted that the move to a larger school proved more challenging than he had expected.
Harry revealed that he had played for the first team during his preparatory school years before joining Eton. However, competition at the new school was much stronger.
Looking back with humor, Harry explained that he eventually found himself playing for the school’s E team rather than the top squad. He acknowledged that the change was disappointing at the time.
“You know what, in prep school, I was on the first team,” Harry recalled. “And then I went to the bigger school, and I ended up on the E team.”
The Duke added, “Big A team, down to E team. So that didn’t feel very good,” offering a self-deprecating account of his school sporting experience.
