The Palace explained that the Baton Relay lasted for 500 days and travelled throughout every corner of the Commonwealth before arriving in Glasgow. The relay symbolised unity among the nations taking part in the Games.

The monarch said everyone had gathered to celebrate the “dedication and talent” of every athlete and team. His message focused on encouragement as competitors prepared to represent their nations.
“Your perseverance inspires us, and we eagerly anticipate your achievements in the coming days,” King Charles said in his address, wishing all participants success during the Games.
The King also used his speech to highlight an important environmental issue. He spoke about the need to reduce plastic pollution and encouraged greater awareness of its impact on the planet.
“For these Games, the Relay has carried another message – to help remove the plastic pollution that harms our oceans and waterways, and can impact on human health,” the monarch added.
King Charles appeared in positive spirits throughout the opening ceremony, with the Palace choosing to focus public attention on his official duties rather than ongoing speculation surrounding Prince Harry and the Sussexes.
The Palace’s update came as fresh reports claimed Prince Harry’s latest efforts to repair relations with his family may have been influenced by financial concerns following his recent legal setbacks.
Royal commentator Rob Shuter, citing an insider, claimed the Duke of Sussex’s reported push for reconciliation was connected to the significant legal costs he is said to be facing after his court defeat.
The insider reportedly told Shuter, “He may be asking for forgiveness. But what he really needs is someone to pay the bill,” suggesting that money could be playing a role in Harry’s reported efforts to reconnect with his family.
