Prince Harry Reaches Out to Princess Diana’s Old Friends for Secret Plan
Prince Harry is reportedly reaching out to Princess Diana’s old friends as he moves forward with a secret plan involving his late mother, with claims that the Duke of Sussex is preparing to make his own television film about her.
Royal commentator Richard Kay revealed details about Harry’s reported plans during an appearance on Palace Confidential, where he discussed how the approaching thirtieth anniversary of Diana’s death could once again place her legacy firmly at the centre of royal attention.
According to Kay, Princess Diana has continued to play an important role in the thinking of both Prince William and Prince Harry. “Diana has dominated the thinking of both William and Harry for the last ten years,” he told host Luke Blackall.
The royal expert claimed Harry now wants some of Diana’s old friends and other people who knew the late Princess to participate in a film about his mother, potentially making the project an important focus for the Duke over the coming months.
Kay pointed out that William and Harry were in a very different position nine years ago when they came together to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of their mother’s death, with the brothers appearing much more united in preserving Diana’s memory.
However, their relationship has since become deeply fractured, and Kay predicted that next year’s thirtieth anniversary could bring Diana’s legacy back into focus while potentially creating additional strain between the Prince of Wales and his younger brother.
Discussing what he had heard about Harry’s extended stay in the United Kingdom, Kay revealed that the reported television project involving Diana could be one of the reasons the Duke is spending more time in Britain.
“I am told that one of the reasons Harry’s here is to make a television film, his own film, about his mother,” Kay said, before claiming that the Duke had already begun contacting people who had personal connections with Diana.
Kay continued: “I know he has been reaching out to his friends and others who knew her, asking them to contribute. That’s going to occupy a lot of his headspace over the next twelve months.”
The reported project could also reopen discussion surrounding how Diana’s legacy is represented by her two sons. Kay stressed that although Harry is frequently compared with his mother, Diana was equally the mother of both Harry and William.
“People always link Harry to Diana, but she was the mother of two boys,” Kay said, claiming William remains “just as much his mother’s son as Harry is” while suggesting that Harry has attempted to claim more of Diana’s legacy for himself.
According to Kay, this has reportedly become a source of intense frustration for William. He suggested the Prince of Wales does not speak publicly about Diana as frequently as Harry, although William has discussed his mother and her influence at several important moments.
The commentator also predicted that Harry’s connection with Diana and the Spencer family could become increasingly prominent, claiming the Duke may continue using the “Diana legacy,” Spencer name and Spencer brand as a way of distinguishing himself from the House of Windsor.
If Harry is indeed preparing a television film about his mother, the project would arrive during another significant period for Diana’s legacy, as her brother Earl Spencer has announced a new book about his sister that is due to be released this month, ahead of next year’s milestone anniversary.
