Prince Harry’s UK Return Sparks Emotional Questions Over King Charles Cancer Battle
Prince Harry’s reported decision to return to the UK for an extended period has sparked fresh speculation about the emotional reasons behind the Sussexes plans, particularly as King Charles continues his treatment following his cancer diagnosis.
Reports suggest Harry and Meghan Markle intend to maintain their homes in Montecito and Portugal while spending a longer period in Britain at a private, non-royal residence, with Charles reportedly welcoming the decision.
However, former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked closely with Charles for years, has suggested that Harry’s return could be connected to his father’s health and his desire to remain closer to the King.
Speaking on GB News, Harrold said he had always expected Harry and Meghan to return to Britain eventually, but admitted he was surprised by the apparent timing of their move.
Harrold described the development as seeming almost rushed, although he suggested that the decision itself had clearly been planned, particularly because Harry had reportedly been looking at schools for his children during a recent UK visit.
The former Palace aide also pointed to Harry’s previous public comments about not knowing how much time his father has left, suggesting those remarks could provide important context for the Sussexes’ latest plans.
According to Harrold, Harry may simply want to be closer to Charles while he still can, especially given the father and son’s historically close relationship before the family tensions of recent years.
He suggested that the bond between Harry and his father had once been extremely strong, while Harry may also miss the wider family connections he once shared with Charles and Prince William.
The former royal butler’s comments raise the possibility that Harry’s decision is motivated by more than practical considerations surrounding his children, particularly if he is increasingly concerned about losing valuable time with his father.
For Harry, the prospect of regretting missed opportunities could be particularly painful, especially after the sudden loss of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022.
The circumstances surrounding the Queen’s death reportedly remain emotionally significant for Harry, and the experience may have influenced his desire to stay closer to his family rather than risk being far away during another difficult moment.
Charles has continued carrying out public duties while undergoing cancer treatment, and the King has also previously spoken about the importance of family and his affection for his grandchildren.
Harry and Meghan’s reported decision to retain their overseas properties while establishing a longer-term base in Britain could therefore allow them to maintain their life in California while spending more meaningful time with relatives in the UK.
There is currently no confirmation from Buckingham Palace that Charles’s health directly influenced Harry’s reported decision, but Harrold’s comments provide an emotional explanation for why the Sussexes may now be considering a more extended presence in Britain.
If Harry is indeed motivated by a desire to remain close to his father, the move could represent a deeply personal decision rather than an attempt to return to royal duties, potentially opening a new chapter in the complicated relationship between the Sussexes and the Royal Family.
