King Charles Struggles To Keep Pace During Scotland Walk As Health Concerns Resurface
King Charles appeared to struggle to keep pace during a recent walk in Scotland, with footage of the monarch prompting renewed attention to his health as he continues his public duties while undergoing cancer treatment.
The 77-year-old monarch was seen walking alongside a soldier during the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, with royal commentator Rebecca English sharing footage from the occasion.
In the video, Charles appeared to move more slowly than those around him, with some viewers interpreting his expression and movements as signs of tiredness during the demanding engagement.
The footage offered a different glimpse of the King compared with the official photographs and carefully managed public appearances that usually accompany his royal duties.
Despite appearing fatigued, Charles continued with the ceremony and maintained his commitment to carrying out his responsibilities in Scotland.
English previously shared the footage while explaining the significance of the historic ceremony, writing: “If you had ever wondered what the ancient Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse was, here you are.”
The event traditionally marks the formal beginning of the monarch’s annual Holyrood Week in Scotland and represents an important part of the King’s constitutional and ceremonial responsibilities.
Charles attended the Ceremony of the Keys in June as he received the symbolic welcome to Edinburgh, continuing a tradition associated with the monarch’s annual Scottish visit.
The appearance came amid the King’s ongoing cancer treatment, which Buckingham Palace first announced in February 2024. The Palace has generally kept details of his condition private while confirming that he has continued with his treatment.
Charles has nevertheless maintained a substantial programme of public engagements, although his schedule has been adjusted at various points since his diagnosis.
The monarch is now spending part of the summer in Scotland, where the Royal Family traditionally gathers at Balmoral. His stay combines private family time with selected official engagements.
For Charles, continuing to appear in public despite the challenges surrounding his health has become a notable part of his reign. His willingness to maintain his duties has repeatedly demonstrated his determination to remain active.
While footage of the King looking tired can naturally prompt concern among royal watchers, a brief video cannot establish the state of his health or indicate whether his appearance reflects a serious deterioration.
For now, Charles continues to balance treatment with his responsibilities as monarch, with his latest Scottish appearance showing that, even when the pace appears difficult, he remains committed to carrying out his duties.
