King Charles Shows Surprising Change as Harry Return and Diana Claims Put Family in Spotlight
King Charles has shown a surprising change in his demeanour as Prince Harry’s return and fresh claims about Princess Diana put the Royal Family back in the spotlight, with an expert noticing a much more relaxed side of the monarch.
The King is balancing his responsibilities as monarch while undergoing cancer treatment, at a time when Harry’s return to Britain and Charles Spencer’s forthcoming Princess Diana memoir have created additional headlines surrounding the Royal Family.
Earlier this week, Charles visited the Cairngorms in Scotland, where he met volunteers, firefighters and community leaders involved in responding to the devastating Glenmore and Abernethy wildfires that affected the region during the summer.
The King used the engagement to express his appreciation for those who helped communities during the emergency, while also hearing about the impact of the fires and the work undertaken by those responding.
Body language expert Darren Stanton suggested there was something particularly noticeable about Charles during the outdoor engagement: the King appeared comfortable, relaxed and seemingly at ease in his surroundings.
Speaking to Cheat Sheet, Stanton said Charles displayed a “genuine sense of peace about him,” suggesting that spending time in nature appeared to place the monarch in what could be considered his “happy place.”
“His posture is very relaxed, with his shoulders down and no obvious signs of tension or stress,” Stanton observed while analysing footage and photographs from the King’s Scottish appearance.
The expert also pointed to Charles’ breathing and movements, saying they appeared slower and more controlled. During conversations with those attending, Stanton described the King’s movements as “calm and unhurried.”
“There’s no sense that he feels out of his depth or uncomfortable in the environment,” Stanton continued. “He looks like someone who is genuinely enjoying himself and feels very much at home.”
Stanton also highlighted what he interpreted as “genuine smiles” during the engagement, while noting an apparent absence of certain gestures that he says Charles has displayed during some previous public appearances.
According to the expert, Charles was not noticeably fidgeting or playing with his cufflinks, behaviours Stanton described as possible “self-reassuring gestures.” He interpreted their absence as another indication that the King appeared comfortable.
Stanton suggested the change could indicate Charles “doesn’t feel the need to perform or justify himself anymore.” Body language interpretations, however, cannot establish someone’s private emotional state and remain the expert’s assessment of visible behaviour.
The observations arrive as Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet continue their new chapter in Britain, bringing renewed attention to Charles’ relationship with his younger son and grandchildren.
At the same time, Diana’s brother Charles Spencer is preparing to release Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, containing disputed recollections involving the King that have already prompted an unusual response from Buckingham Palace.
Despite those sensitive developments, Charles’ Cairngorms appearance offered a noticeably calmer public picture. Whatever pressures may exist privately, the King appeared focused on the communities before him with Stanton interpreting his relaxed manner as evidence of a monarch increasingly comfortable in his public role.
