Meghan Markle Faces Fresh Criticism Over Invictus Games Fashion Controversy
Former senior royal Meghan Markle has come under renewed criticism ahead of her expected return to the United Kingdom with Prince Harry and their children. The Duchess of Sussex is facing allegations linked to the commercial use of outfits connected to the Invictus Games.
The controversy emerged after AI fashion platform OneOff began selling and promoting Meghan Markle’s previous Invictus Games looks through its online service. Critics have questioned whether the move crosses the line between charitable work and commercial branding.
OneOff, an AI-powered fashion platform, allows users to identify celebrity outfits and purchase similar clothing items directly through the app. Meghan Markle reportedly became both an investor and participant in the company during the Sussexes’ recent trip to Australia.
Reports claim the Duchess of Sussex may receive commissions ranging between 10 and 25 percent for items purchased from collections linked to her fashion appearances. Meghan is also understood to hold an investment stake in the company itself.
Although Meghan only officially partnered with the platform earlier this year, several of her older public outfits have already appeared on the app. This includes clothing she wore during previous Invictus Games events alongside Prince Harry.
One of the most discussed examples involved Meghan Markle’s appearance at the Whistler Welcome Celebration during the 2025 Invictus Games in Canada. Critics argued that using outfits from charity-linked events for commercial sales sends the wrong message.
Some royal commentators and social media users believe the move risks blurring the boundaries between charitable activities and private business ventures. The criticism has intensified as Prince Harry prepares for upcoming Invictus Games events in Birmingham.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams strongly criticised the situation while speaking to GB News about the controversy. He claimed the Palace would not be surprised by Meghan “commercialising anything” connected to her public profile.
Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games support wounded, injured and sick service personnel and military veterans from around the world. The sporting competition has become one of Harry’s most respected and successful charitable initiatives.
Social media users have also reacted negatively to the reports, with some accusing Meghan Markle of “making a dollar on the back of those veterans.” The criticism has continued spreading online as debate around the controversy grows.
The Invictus Games have brought together more than 3,000 competitors from over 25 countries since the event was first launched. The eighth edition of the Games is scheduled to take place in Birmingham next year.
Prince Harry is expected to travel to Birmingham soon to officially launch the one-year countdown to the upcoming Invictus Games. It remains unclear whether Meghan Markle will accompany him during the promotional event.
The controversy also resurfaced memories of the Sussexes’ Australia tour, where Meghan Markle faced criticism after several expensive fashion items she wore were listed for sale online shortly after public appearances. Critics argued the timing appeared inappropriate.
Royal commentator Richard Palmer described the situation as one of the clearest examples yet of Harry and Meghan’s efforts to commercialise their royal image. He claimed the developments would likely cause concern within Palace circles ahead of the Sussexes’ return to Britain.
