Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Mocked By Montecito Neighbours Over Lavish Mansion
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are once again making headlines after reports claimed their Montecito neighbours have been quietly mocking the Sussexes’ lavish California mansion and its outdated appearance.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex purchased the massive Mediterranean style property in 2020 after stepping away from royal duties and relocating permanently to the United States. Since then, the mansion has become one of the most talked about celebrity homes in Montecito.
Known as the “Chateau of Riven Rock,” the sprawling estate was originally built in 2003 and reflects design trends from the early 2000s. Despite the property’s luxurious size and location, critics claim the home now appears dated compared to nearby celebrity estates.
According to royal commentator Tom Sykes, locals in the wealthy California community have reportedly poked fun at the Sussexes for leaving much of the mansion untouched instead of fully modernizing the property after purchasing it.
Speaking on his Royalist podcast, Sykes claimed a Montecito resident described Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s home as something of a “laughing stock” among some wealthy neighbours in the area.
The Sussexes reportedly paid around fourteen million dollars for the estate, yet no major structural renovations or dramatic redesigns have been publicly revealed since the couple moved into the property several years ago.
Sykes argued that many ultra wealthy homeowners in California would likely have demolished or heavily remodeled a mansion of that age to better reflect modern luxury tastes and updated design standards.
The commentator also mocked the home’s interior style, joking that parts of the kitchen appeared frozen in time. Reports described dark wood finishes, stone detailing, and décor choices strongly associated with the early 2000s era.
Small glimpses of the Montecito property shared by Meghan Markle on social media over the years have fueled ongoing curiosity about the Sussexes’ private home life and lifestyle choices in California.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have generally maintained a careful balance between privacy and selective public exposure regarding their mansion. The couple occasionally share limited home images connected to projects, holidays, or family moments.
Despite the criticism, the Montecito estate still offers extensive luxury features including large gardens, private security space, outdoor entertaining areas, and enough room for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to grow up away from royal pressures.
Since leaving Britain, the Sussexes have focused heavily on building a quieter family life in California while pursuing entertainment deals, charitable work, and media projects through their Archewell organization.
However, every aspect of the couple’s lifestyle continues attracting enormous public attention, from their business ventures to their celebrity friendships and even the design choices inside their private residence.
While some critics may mock the mansion’s appearance, many supporters argue that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle likely value comfort, privacy, and family life more than chasing constantly changing celebrity design trends in Hollywood circles.
