Queen Camilla’s Son Tom Parker Bowles Breaks Silence on the Treatment His Mother Faced

Queen Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles has spoken candidly about the hostility his mother faced in the past, reflecting on how she endured years of difficult public scrutiny while continuing to move forward.

The food writer discussed Camilla during an appearance on the Don’t Judge Me podcast, where the conversation turned to the public’s changing attitudes towards the Queen and the challenges she experienced during the 1990s.

“Just because everyone’s being nice now doesn’t mean we don’t remember that back in the ’90s when it was all pretty nasty,” Tom said, recalling the treatment his mother received during that turbulent period.

His remarks offered a personal perspective on a chapter in Camilla’s life when her relationship with King Charles attracted intense public attention and criticism.

Tom also praised his mother’s determination to carry on despite difficult experiences, describing her approach as typically British and reflecting on the way she handles adversity.

“There have been times that haven’t been so wonderful, but my mother just gets on with it, in that sort of English way: ‘Never complain, never explain’, and just get on with it,” he said.

Despite Camilla’s position as Queen, Tom explained that their relationship has remained grounded in ordinary family dynamics rather than royal formality.

“It’s still the same. We still bicker over things,” he admitted, suggesting that her royal responsibilities have not changed the everyday bond between mother and son.

The conversation also turned to Tom’s own teenage years, when his behaviour sometimes created difficulties for his parents.

Looking back, he remembered that period with humour but acknowledged that his youthful antics were not always easy for his family to manage.

“God, it was fun. However chemically induced some of it might have been back in the day,” he said.

Tom added that he did not regret the experiences themselves, although he expressed regret about the distress he caused his parents and the occasions when his behaviour was discovered.

“I don’t regret any of that at all. I regret putting my parents through hell and being caught doing it,” he admitted.

His comments revealed a reflective side to the food writer, who was willing to discuss both the enjoyable and more difficult aspects of his younger years.

When asked to describe his life in three words, Tom initially joked that it was “not too bad” before acknowledging the advantages he has enjoyed from birth.

“I’ve been born lucky. I’ve been born privileged. I never lose sight of that,” he said.

His admission highlighted his awareness of the opportunities and circumstances that have shaped his life.

Tom’s candid reflections offered a glimpse into the family behind the royal title, showing how Camilla’s experiences have been viewed not only through the lens of public controversy but also by the people closest to her.

While public attitudes towards the Queen have evolved over time, Tom’s words made clear that the difficult years remain part of the family’s shared history.
