King Charles and Prince William Face Fresh Questions As Prince Harry Remains Silence Over Spencer Book

King Charles and Prince William are facing fresh questions over Prince Harry’s silence on Charles Spencer’s controversial book with commentator Mark Dolan dramatically branding the Duke’s decision not to publicly challenge his uncle an “act of war.”

Harry has so far avoided publicly taking sides over Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, despite the book containing a series of disputed allegations involving his father and the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death in 1997.

The Duke’s neutral public position has attracted attention because Buckingham Palace took the unusual step of responding to one of Spencer’s claims, while William has continued his royal duties without publicly discussing his uncle’s book.

Dolan has now argued that Harry’s silence will be particularly difficult for Charles and William, claiming the Prince of Wales is already deeply unhappy about the allegations directed at his father.

Speaking on the Daily Expresso podcast, the royal commentator claimed William has been left “absolutely furious” and “disgusted” by the contents of his uncle’s memoir.

While William has not publicly revealed his feelings about the book, Dolan claimed his royal sources believe the Prince has firmly sided with Charles during the controversy.

Harry’s approach, according to Dolan, has been noticeably different. “Harry, on the other hand, deafening in his silence,” he said while discussing the Duke’s lack of a public response.

Dolan then went considerably further, declaring: “And I’ve got to tell you that Harry’s silence in regard to this book is an act of war.”

The commentator argued that Harry should publicly reject Spencer’s allegations if he disagrees with them, particularly as reports have suggested the Duke is simultaneously attempting to rebuild his personal relationship with Charles.

“The book contains these allegations, and Harry says nothing,” Dolan said, before arguing that his silence could be interpreted as support for his uncle’s account and an attack on his father.

However, Harry has never publicly said that he supports the allegations in Spencer’s memoir, and remaining silent does not establish that he accepts his uncle’s version of events. Dolan’s interpretation therefore remains his own assessment of the Duke’s position.

Dolan also claimed William’s relationship with Spencer has deteriorated badly. “My royal sources tell me that William is absolutely furious about the book, that he doesn’t have a good relationship with his uncle, and he’s firmly on his father’s side,” he said.

William himself has remained publicly silent when questioned about the memoir, meaning reports describing him as furious or heartbroken have not been independently confirmed. Similarly, there has been no public statement from Charles suggesting that Harry’s silence has damaged their reported efforts to improve their relationship.

Nevertheless, Harry’s decision to stay out of the dispute leaves room for competing interpretations as Spencer continues discussing Diana and defending his recollections. For now, the Duke has neither backed nor rejected his uncle’s allegations publicly, leaving Charles and William to deal with the fallout while Harry maintains a carefully neutral position.
