King Charles Takes Step Closer to Prince Harry and Meghan As Prince William Rift Shows No Sign of Thawing
King Charles has reportedly taken another step closer to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle despite the continuing distance between them and Prince William., with Omid Scobie claiming the monarch now feels a renewed “warmth” towards his younger son and his family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to the UK with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for an extended period, bringing their complicated relationships with senior members of the Royal Family firmly back into focus.
Their renewed presence in Britain has generated questions about whether personal reconciliation with Charles could become possible even though Harry and Meghan remain outside the working monarchy.
Scobie has now offered his assessment of the changing family dynamics in the Disney+ documentary Harry & Meghan: The Return of the Prince.
The author, who has extensively covered the Sussexes and the Royal Family, suggested that relations between Charles and Harry are no longer as cold as they once appeared.
“I think we’ve seen with Charles things have moved forward and that iciness has thawed out,” Scobie said while discussing the King’s relationship with his younger son.
He then added: “There’s a warmth there,” suggesting that Charles remains personally affectionate towards Harry and his family despite the tensions that followed the Sussexes’ departure from royal duties.
Scobie painted a very different picture when discussing William and Harry, however, suggesting he sees little prospect of the brothers’ fractured relationship changing in the foreseeable future.
“With William, I don’t see it will ever change,” he said, offering a striking assessment of a relationship that has remained the subject of intense public speculation.
His comments come amid separate claims that William remains unhappy about Harry and Meghan’s position following their return to Britain and wants firm boundaries maintained between the Sussexes and the working Royal Family.
Scobie also challenged the longstanding narrative that Princess Kate could eventually become the person who helps bring the estranged brothers back together.
“There’s always this talk of Kate potentially being the peacekeeper, the one that could bring the two brothers together,” he explained in the documentary.
However, Scobie argued that Kate has historically had limited involvement in managing William and Harry’s relationship, saying: “If I’ve learned anything over the years from covering them, it’s that Kate has very little to do with that relationship between the brothers.”
Scobie’s comments represent his assessment rather than an official account from Charles, William or Kensington Palace. Still, his claims suggest two very different paths may be developing inside the family Charles and Harry could be experiencing a personal thaw, while the relationship between William and his younger brother appears, at least according to Scobie, much harder to repair. Any warmer relationship with the King would also remain separate from Harry and Meghan’s status as non-working royals.
