Prince Harry and Meghan Receive Key Update on Archie and Lilibet’s Protection After School Security Scare
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly received a reassuring update about protections surrounding Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet after two photographers were allegedly spotted outside their children’s new school in UK.
The disturbing episode came just days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex switched their children’s school, a decision that had already been made following discussions with their security team about the practicalities of the family’s previous arrangements.
Private security personnel and school staff reportedly spotted two photographers, believed to be associated with a European agency, around the perimeter of the new school, prompting an angry response from Harry and Meghan.
The Sussexes’ spokesperson described the photographers’ alleged conduct as “extraordinarily reckless” and argued there was a clear distinction between legitimate media activity and monitoring children around school grounds.
The incident was reportedly particularly unsettling for Meghan, with a source speaking to Rob Shuter claiming the couple had not fully appreciated the specific press protections covering children attending school in Britain.
Those protections include provisions in the Independent Press Standards Organisation’s Editors’ Code. Its rules concerning children are designed to ensure pupils can complete their education without unnecessary intrusion.
The code also places restrictions on approaching or photographing children while they are at school without appropriate permission, offering Archie and Lilibet safeguards against certain forms of media intrusion.
“They didn’t realise how specifically children are protected here,” the source claimed, suggesting the Sussexes had expected their return to Britain to expose their children to greater press attention.
“They thought California meant protection and Britain meant intrusion,” the insider continued, before suggesting the couple’s experience may now be challenging that assumption.
“What they’re discovering is that, when it comes specifically to press protections surrounding children and schools, Britain has rules that could give Archie and Lilibet protections Harry simply didn’t have growing up,” the source said.
Reports have also claimed security around the school has been tightened following the incident and that authorities are looking into what happened. Details of any investigation and its status have not been publicly established.
Harry’s determination to protect his children has frequently been linked to his own experiences growing up under intense media attention and to the circumstances surrounding Princess Diana’s death in 1997.
The source suggested that changes in attitudes and media standards in the decades since Diana’s death could now provide safeguards for her grandchildren that Harry feels were missing during his own childhood.
“Harry left Britain haunted by what happened to his mother. Now his children will benefit from a system transformed because of what happened to her,” the insider claimed. While the school incident has heightened the Sussexes’ security concerns, the existing protections for children may offer Harry and Meghan some reassurance as Archie and Lilibet continue settling into their new life in Britain.
