Princess Kate’s Sweet Backstage Request for Princess Charlotte Revealed Years Later
Princess Kate’s touching gesture for Princess Charlotte has been revealed by a West End star, offering an adorable glimpse of the future Queen putting her role as a mother ahead of royal formality during a special family outing.
The Princess of Wales reportedly took Prince George and Charlotte to see Mary Poppins, giving the young royals an opportunity to enjoy the celebrated production away from their usual appearances at major royal events.
But the memorable experience did not end when the curtain came down. Kate reportedly brought George and Charlotte backstage, where they had the chance to meet Zizi Strallen, who portrayed Mary Poppins.
According to Hello! Magazine, Strallen recalled that Catherine approached her with a particularly sweet request concerning Charlotte, who apparently wanted something more personal than simply meeting the famous character.
“Kate brought Prince George and Princess Charlotte to see Mary Poppins,” the actress recalled while revealing details of her unexpected encounter with the Wales family.
“They came backstage, and she said to me: ‘Would it be OK for Charlotte to have a cuddle with Mary Poppins?’” Strallen continued, revealing the Princess of Wales personally asked permission on her daughter’s behalf.
The actress immediately agreed to the request. “I was like: ‘Yes!’ She wanted to hug me, which was really cute,” Strallen said of Charlotte’s adorable backstage moment with Mary Poppins.
The revelation provides a rare glimpse into Charlotte’s childhood away from formal royal occasions, showing Kate helping her daughter enjoy an ordinary magical experience despite growing up in one of Britain’s most closely watched families.
Charlotte has since developed an increasingly confident public presence and is regularly seen accompanying William, Kate and her brothers at major royal events, where her behaviour frequently attracts attention from royal watchers.
The young Princess has also drawn comparisons with her great-aunt Princess Anne, with some commentators pointing towards her confident personality and apparent willingness to keep an eye on brothers George and Louis during public engagements.
Body language expert Judi James has previously highlighted Charlotte’s interactions with both boys, suggesting she appears naturally attentive to what her brothers are doing when the family is appearing together.
“We do see Charlotte keeping an eye on both of her brothers,” James said while discussing the subtle family dynamics visible during the Wales children’s public appearances.
“What I found really fascinating isn’t so much that she is doing that,” James continued, “but for me, it is the way that when she does nudge them and tap them, they both fall into line.”
Those observations remain interpretations of public body language, but Strallen’s backstage recollection reveals a very different side of Charlotte.
