Prince William and Princess Kate Face Major Royal Test as Palace Braces for More Diana Revelations
Prince William and Princess Kate are preparing for a significant royal appearance as renewed controversy surrounding Princess Diana places the future King and his father, King Charles, back under intense public scrutiny.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to continue with their official programme as usual, despite explosive claims from Diana’s brother Charles Spencer reopening painful questions surrounding events after her death.
William and Charles have reportedly experienced difficult moments in their relationship over the years, but the pair have increasingly worked together on important decisions concerning the monarchy and its long-term direction.
Now William faces the particularly personal challenge of carrying out public duties while extraordinary allegations concerning his parents and the traumatic days surrounding his mother’s funeral return to the headlines.
William and Kate, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay while in Scotland, will make their first official visit to the Isle of Bute, continuing their programme of engagements with Scottish communities.

Spencer claims he and Charles had an angry telephone conversation over whether the young William and Prince Harry should walk behind Diana’s coffin during the funeral procession following her death in 1997.
According to Spencer’s recollection, Charles allegedly told him the world would “forget her soon enough.” The claim concerns a private conversation almost three decades ago and has not been independently verified.
Buckingham Palace nevertheless took the unusual step of responding to the allegations, despite stressing that it generally does not comment on books or accounts contained within forthcoming memoirs.
“His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss,” the Palace statement said.
The carefully worded response effectively challenged the reliability of Spencer’s recollection without providing a detailed alternative account of the alleged conversation, leaving the conflicting versions at the centre of renewed attention.
With Swan Song yet to reveal its full contents publicly, further claims could keep Diana’s history in the headlines. William and Kate’s immediate task, however, will be to maintain focus on their Scottish engagements rather than become drawn into the dispute.
The timing is especially striking as Prince Harry is also expected to make a public UK appearance connected with the Invictus Games. With both Diana’s sons increasingly visible in Britain while their uncle’s memoir revisits their most painful childhood memories, the Palace could face an unusually sensitive period ahead.
