Meghan Markle’s latest outing has revealed how she spent time away from Prince Harry’s important engagement, with the Duchess of Sussex photographed enjoying a relaxed afternoon with longtime friends Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi in Oxfordshire.
The sighting comes almost a month after Harry and Meghan relocated from California to Britain with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, beginning a significant new chapter for the Sussex family.
Since arriving back in the UK, Meghan has maintained a noticeably lower public profile than her husband, avoiding major formal appearances while settling into the family’s new routine.
However, the Duchess was photographed on Monday at The Three Horseshoes pub near Burford, where she reunited with Ellen and Portia for what appeared to be an informal get-together.
According to Page Six, Meghan and her friends were seen “chatting and laughing” during their time together, offering a rare glimpse of the Duchess enjoying her private social life since returning to Britain.
Meghan opted for a casual appearance for the afternoon, wearing white trousers with a light blue top and trainers rather than the more formal outfits associated with her previous royal engagements.
The meeting also reunited three familiar members of the California celebrity circle, although Ellen and Portia have themselves been building a new life in Britain after moving to the UK in 2024.
Before relocating, the couple lived in Montecito, the same California community where Harry and Meghan established their family home after stepping away from their positions as senior working royals.
Their friendship therefore predates the Sussexes’ latest move, making the Oxfordshire meeting more of a reunion between longtime friends than a new connection formed after Meghan returned to Britain.
The Duchess’ appearance also helps explain how she was spending some of her time while Harry continued with the public and charitable commitments that have quickly filled his schedule following his homecoming.
Harry has already undertaken several engagements since arriving in Britain, including continuing his longstanding involvement with WellChild, an organisation that has remained an important part of his charitable work.
Meghan did not accompany her husband for that appearance, maintaining the more private approach she has followed since the family’s relocation rather than immediately returning to a full programme of public events.
Her afternoon with Ellen and Portia indicates that while Harry has been more visible publicly, Meghan has been reconnecting with friends and adjusting to everyday life in Britain away from formal engagements.
The outing does not establish that the pub meeting was the specific reason Meghan skipped Harry’s WellChild engagement unless their timings directly overlapped. It does, however, offer another glimpse into her quieter UK routine as Harry continues taking the lead on public appearances.
