Meghan Markle’s affectionate birthday tribute to Prince Harry has sparked fresh speculation about the Sussexes growing connection with Princess Diana’s family, just as tensions surrounding King Charles and Charles Spencer return to the spotlight.
The Duchess of Sussex celebrated Harry’s 42nd birthday on September 15 by sharing a personal video featuring photographs of the Duke alongside Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The family moments presented a warm picture of Harry’s life as a husband and father, but it was Meghan’s choice of music for the tribute that attracted particular attention among royal observers.
Meghan selected Tina Turner’s famous song The Best, a track reportedly associated with Diana because the late Princess was said to have played it while taking William and Harry to school.

The source went further by suggesting Meghan’s gesture could also be interpreted as a signal that she increasingly feels aligned with Diana’s Spencer family following the Sussexes’ extended return to Britain.
There is no confirmation from Meghan that the birthday video was intended as a message to King Charles or a declaration that she is “team Spencer,” making that interpretation an allegation from the publication’s source.
Nevertheless, the speculation arrives at a particularly sensitive moment after Palace guidance reinforced Harry and Meghan’s status as non-working royals and “private citizens” who do not officially represent the Crown.
“There’s no doubt Meghan’s encouraging an alliance with the Spencers,” the insider claimed, suggesting that the Sussexes have received a warmer reception from Charles Spencer since establishing their new life in Britain.
“After the King’s letter, she knows where their bread’s buttered and the Earl has been nothing but warm and kind to her and the children,” the source continued, although no such strategic alliance has been publicly confirmed.
The timing is especially significant because Spencer’s forthcoming memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, has already reopened painful questions about Diana’s relationship with Charles and the events surrounding her funeral.
Buckingham Palace has challenged one of Spencer’s most explosive recollections, suggesting grief can “cloud reason” and “colour memory,” while Harry is reportedly already familiar with the contents of his uncle’s book.
The report warned that publicly appearing to side with Spencer could further complicate Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the Royal Family if the memoir contains additional criticism.
