Prince Harry Gets Archie and Lilibet Honour After Difficult Charity Chapter
Prince Harry has received a touching tribute involving his children Archie and Lilibet after difficult charity chapter, marking a significant new chapter after his painful departure from Sentebale.
The Duke of Sussex founded Sentebale in honour of his late mother, Princess Diana, and had remained closely associated with the organisation for many years. However, his relationship with the charity eventually became embroiled in a highly public dispute.
In March 2025, Harry announced that he was stepping down as patron of Sentebale alongside co-founder Prince Seeiso and five trustees. The decision followed a reported boardroom conflict that brought considerable attention to the organisation.
The dispute became even more complicated after board chair Dr Sophie Chandauka made allegations concerning Harry and the trustees. A subsequent Charity Commission investigation found no wrongdoing, although the highly public disagreement generated significant damage to the charity’s reputation.
The difficult episode appears to have marked the end of Harry’s long association with Sentebale. Instead of continuing to direct his Diana-related charitable funds toward the organisation, the Duke has now chosen a different cause connected to Africa and wildlife conservation.
Harry donated his Diana legacy funds to Elephants Without Borders, a charity working to protect African elephants and their habitats. The decision represents a notable shift for the Duke after years of supporting Sentebale.
The charity has a particularly meaningful connection to Harry because of his longstanding relationship with Botswana and the wider African continent. He has previously spoken warmly about his experiences in Africa and the personal significance the region holds for him.
Following Harry’s support, Elephants Without Borders in Botswana made a special gesture involving his family. Two elephants under the charity’s care were named Archie and Lili, after Harry and Meghan Markle’s two children.
The tribute gives Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet a unique connection to the conservation work their father has chosen to support. It also ensures that Harry’s children are now associated with an African wildlife project that he has helped financially.
Dr Mike Chase, the founder of Elephants Without Borders, has known Harry for around two decades and expressed his gratitude for the Duke’s support. He described the contribution as particularly meaningful for both the organisation and the elephants it is working to protect.
“It means a great deal to us and to the elephants we are working so hard to protect,” Chase told The Telegraph, highlighting the importance of the donation to the charity’s conservation efforts.
Chase explained that naming the elephants after Archie and Lili was intended to pass Harry’s conservation legacy on to his children. The move could also allow the youngsters to follow the progress of the elephants despite being thousands of miles away.
“We wanted to pass on that legacy to the kids,” Chase said, adding that the hope was Harry’s passion for the Okavango and Botswana would eventually influence Archie and Lili as well.
Harry’s decision closes one difficult chapter while opening another through a cause that has strong personal connections for him. Although his departure from Sentebale followed a bitter public dispute, his latest charitable move shows that his commitment to African causes remains significant.
The naming of the elephants after Archie and Lilibet also gives the Sussex children a lasting connection to their father’s conservation work. For Harry, the gesture could represent a meaningful way of carrying forward a legacy inspired by his mother while creating a new charitable chapter for the next generation.
