Princess Diana And Sarah Ferguson Friendship Collapsed After One Painful Royal Betrayal

A once beloved friendship inside the British royal family was reportedly came to a heartbreaking end after tensions exploded between Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson following one controversial decision that changed their relationship forever.

Royal fans long admired the close bond shared by Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson during the height of their royal fame. The two women were often viewed as inseparable allies while navigating intense media attention and the pressures of royal life within the monarchy.

According to royal historian and author Andrew Lownie, the friendship between Diana and Ferguson eventually collapsed after the Duchess of York released her autobiography titled My Story in 1996.

Lownie discussed the dramatic fallout during a new Daily Mail video released on May 28, where he revisited the complicated history between the two royal women. The author claimed that Diana became increasingly uncomfortable with Sarah Ferguson’s public behaviour and private disclosures.

Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson were not only connected through marriage into the royal family but were also fourth cousins and childhood friends before entering royal life. Their friendship reportedly became even stronger after Diana introduced Ferguson to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor years earlier.

The late Princess of Wales allegedly played an important role in bringing Sarah Ferguson and the former Duke of York together before their marriage. Both women later became two of the most talked about figures in the monarchy during the 1980s and 1990s.

However, tensions reportedly exploded after Ferguson included a controversial anecdote in her autobiography involving Diana. In the book, Sarah Ferguson mentioned allegedly catching a wart after borrowing a pair of shoes from Princess Diana, a revelation that reportedly deeply upset the late royal.

Andrew Lownie claimed the real issue extended far beyond the embarrassing shoe story itself. According to the royal author, Princess Diana became worried that Sarah Ferguson might begin sharing private information and stories connected to her personal struggles inside the royal family.

The historian alleged that Diana increasingly feared Ferguson’s outgoing and unpredictable personality could damage her own carefully managed public image. Over time, the Princess of Wales reportedly started distancing herself from her former close friend and confidante.

Lownie also claimed Sarah Ferguson had once served as an emotional support system for Princess Diana during periods of frustration with royal life. Diana allegedly turned to Ferguson privately while struggling with pressures connected to her marriage and palace expectations.

Another surprising claim involved Princess Diana’s reported approach toward divorce from King Charles III, who at the time was still Prince Charles. According to Lownie, Diana allegedly encouraged Ferguson to divorce Andrew Mountbatten Windsor first before handling her own separation differently.

The royal author claimed Diana carefully observed how the monarchy treated Sarah Ferguson after her divorce and used those lessons to shape her own strategy during the breakdown of her marriage. Ferguson and Andrew officially divorced in 1992 after ten years together but remained unusually close afterward.

Meanwhile, Princess Diana and Charles separated in 1992 before finalising their divorce in 1996. Just one year later, Diana tragically died in a Paris car crash at the age of 36, leaving behind Prince William and Prince Harry.

Despite the painful fallout, Sarah Ferguson has often publicly insisted that she and Diana shared a uniquely supportive friendship during their years as the famous wives of Windsor. Their emotional story continues fascinating royal fans decades later as new claims about their friendship and heartbreak continue emerging.
