The question of a possible return to royal life would have to be handled extremely carefully. Any arrangement involving Harry and Meghan could affect other members of the Royal Family and would need to avoid creating further divisions within the institution.
Harry would therefore have to pass what could effectively become his father’s test before any serious return could be considered. Rebuilding trust, demonstrating commitment and avoiding further public disputes would likely be essential if the Sussexes wanted the Palace doors to remain open.
Some royal commentators and people close to Harry have described the possibility as a potential reversal of “Megxit.” However, returning to royal life would be far more complicated than simply accepting an invitation to Britain.
The Sussexes would first need to repair their relationship with members of Harry’s family. Years of public criticism, interviews and claims about royal life have left considerable damage, meaning that rebuilding confidence would likely take time.
Sources close to Harry and Meghan have reportedly suggested that the couple are considering how they can reconnect with Harry’s British family roots. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are also an important part of that discussion.
For Harry, bringing his children closer to their royal heritage could provide a powerful personal motivation. A stronger relationship between Archie, Lilibet and their grandfather could also give King Charles another reason to keep communication with the Sussexes open.
However, any return would carry significant risks for the monarchy. Harry and Meghan would have to demonstrate that the problems surrounding their previous royal roles would not simply return if they were brought back into the institution.
For King Charles, the central challenge would be finding a balance between his responsibilities as monarch and his desire to remain close to his son and grandchildren. A successful reconciliation would require family feelings and constitutional responsibilities to coexist.
The Sussexes’ future decisions could therefore prove crucial. Any major misstep or renewed public disagreement could quickly damage the fragile progress that has reportedly been made between Harry and his father.

For now, there is no confirmed plan for Harry and Meghan to resume official royal duties. Any suggestion of a full “Megxit” reversal therefore remains speculative.
Nevertheless, King Charles’ reported willingness to maintain contact with his son has created a new possibility for the future. If Harry genuinely wants the Palace doors to stay open, the biggest test may not be receiving an invitation, but proving that the trust behind that invitation can survive.
