Prince Harry’s heartfelt wish for Prince William and Princess Kate revealed as Princess Diana’s anniversary approaches, according to royal author Omid Scobie Duke of Sussex still hopes to repair his fractured relationship with Prince and Princess of Wales.
The claim comes as Diana’s family is back under intense scrutiny following Charles Spencer’s controversial memoir, which has revived painful questions surrounding the late Princess and her relationship with the Royal Family.
Despite years of disagreements and public accusations involving the monarchy, Harry is said to remain interested in rebuilding his relationship with his elder brother rather than allowing their estrangement to become permanent.
Scobie discussed Harry’s alleged hopes while appearing in the ABC News Studios documentary Harry & Meghan: The Return of the Prince, which examines the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s evolving relationship with Britain and the royals.
According to the author, Harry has been clear about wanting reconciliation with both his father, King Charles, and William despite the considerable difficulties that remain between them.
Scobie said Harry has “made it no secret that his wish for things moving forward, not just with his father, but with his brother as well, is to reconcile.”
One potential opportunity for the brothers to find common ground could involve their mother. The 30th anniversary of Diana’s death falls in 2027, and reports suggest Harry has been exploring possible projects to commemorate her life and legacy.
However, Scobie does not expect the anniversary itself to produce a dramatic reunion between William and Harry. Asked about the possibility of progress, he remained doubtful about an immediate breakthrough.
“I can’t see it making any difference, but one can always hope,” Scobie said, suggesting Harry’s desire for reconciliation does not necessarily mean William currently shares the same expectations.
William has reportedly rejected multiple proposals to participate in or produce new documentary projects about Diana ahead of the anniversary. Reports have suggested he wants to avoid being placed in competition with Harry over how their mother should be remembered.
Harry, meanwhile, is believed to have held discussions about a possible Diana project, although no final documentary plans or joint tribute involving the brothers have been officially announced.
Scobie suggested the situation with King Charles may be different. He claimed relations between Charles and the Sussexes have improved, saying, “I think we’ve seen with Charles things have moved forward and that iciness has thawed out. There’s a warmth there.”
When it comes to William, however, Scobie offered a much less optimistic assessment, adding: “With William, I don’t see it will ever change.” His comments represent his interpretation of the family relationship rather than an official statement from either brother.
For now, Harry’s reported wish to reconcile remains separate from any confirmed reunion with William and Kate. But with Diana’s milestone anniversary approaching, their shared connection to their mother could once again place the estranged brothers in the spotlight — even if they ultimately choose to honour her legacy separately.
