Charles Spencer Break Silence and Clears Prince Harry from Diana Book Involvement
Prince Harry had no involvement in controversial new Princess Diana memoir according to the Charles Spencer, who has directly rejected growing speculation that his nephew helped shape the book or knew about its explosive claims in advance.
Spencer addressed Harry’s alleged role during an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, following intense scrutiny surrounding Swan Song: Diana, My Sister and its disputed allegations involving King Charles.
The memoir has caused significant controversy after Spencer recalled private conversations and events surrounding Diana’s life and death, including an alleged remark made by the now-King following her fatal Paris car crash.
Attention soon shifted towards Harry because of his close relationship with his maternal uncle and reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stayed with Spencer during the summer.
That connection fuelled speculation that Harry may have known more about the memoir than initially believed, particularly as separate reports claimed Prince William was unhappy about his brother’s apparent closeness with Spencer.
Spencer, however, has now firmly pushed back against the suggestion that Harry contributed to the book or played any behind-the-scenes role in its creation.
“I decided not to have anyone involved in the book, so no one knew about it except my wife, obviously, and the publishers,” Spencer told King.
He explained that keeping the project private was a deliberate decision and said members of his family were only informed shortly before the book became publicly known.
“I didn’t tell any of the family until just before it was released publicly as a thing because I didn’t want anyone to think — particularly with Harry, who people know I had to stay in the summer — that he was in any way involved in this,” Spencer said.
“It was really important for me that they weren’t,” he added, drawing a clear line between his relationship with Harry and his decision to publish the controversial memoir.
His clarification challenges suggestions that Harry and Spencer formed an alliance against the Royal Family. Harry has also not publicly endorsed his uncle’s disputed allegations against Charles.
Reports have nevertheless claimed William is deeply frustrated by the latest Diana controversy and concerned that Harry’s relationship with their uncle could further complicate already strained family relations. Kensington Palace has not confirmed those accounts.
Spencer also revealed that communication with both of Diana’s sons has continued since publication. Asked by King, “Have you talked to them after the book?” Spencer replied simply, “Yes, I have.”
The Earl did not disclose what was discussed with either William or Harry, leaving their private reactions unknown. But his latest comments provide his clearest response yet to speculation surrounding Harry: whatever disagreements Swan Song has created within the Royal Family, Spencer insists the Duke of Sussex played no part in writing it.
