Prince William and Princess Kate’s Future Reign Set to Rely on Carole Middleton Behind the Scenes
Prince William and Princess Kate could continue relying on Carole Middleton as a crucial behind the scenes figure during their future reign, with a royal expert predicting Kate’s mother will step forward whenever the future King and Queen need her support.
Carole has remained an important presence throughout William and Kate’s relationship, from their years of dating through their royal wedding and subsequent life raising Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Unlike members of the Royal Family, however, the Middleton matriarch does not hold an official royal position and has generally maintained a comparatively private role around her daughter’s family.
Her importance became particularly apparent during Kate’s cancer treatment, when reports described the Middletons as a valuable source of practical and emotional support for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Royal author Ingrid Seward believes that same arrangement could continue when William eventually becomes King and Kate takes her place alongside him as Queen.
Speaking during a live recording of HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast, Seward predicted that Carole would remain discreet while still maintaining a significant presence in William and Kate’s lives.
“I think she will be in the background, but she will be in the foreground,” Seward said while discussing how Carole’s position could evolve alongside her daughter’s future responsibilities.
“I think she’s a very determined and clever lady. I really have huge admiration for her; I think we all do,” the royal author continued.
According to Seward, Carole’s strength lies in knowing when to remain outside the spotlight and when circumstances require her to become more directly involved with the Wales family.
“And that’s really what she’s done since Catherine married William, isn’t it?” Seward said, pointing to Kate’s period of illness as an example of Carole reportedly stepping forward when her family needed her most.
“She’s been in the background and come forward, for instance, when Catherine was ill, and she took over,” the expert claimed.
Seward said Carole helped with the Wales children, their schooling and everyday family responsibilities, while also providing practical support for William during an exceptionally difficult period.
“She took over helping with the children and the school and the cooking and making food for William and looking after him, too,” Seward said, describing Carole as “a very strong and determined person.”
Carole would not automatically gain an official constitutional role when William becomes King. But if Seward’s assessment proves accurate, Kate’s mother could remain an influential private support figure, helping William and Kate manage family life behind Palace walls as they eventually take on the monarchy’s biggest responsibilities.
